We were there, family of 5. Older brother was a mad Sheene fan. I preferred Mick Grant's Kawasaki. The noise after that hairpin bend when they opened up to climb the hill was unbelievable to a 10year old. Remember my father the day after the races driving our Ford Cortina around the track.

This brings back a lot of great memories of the non-GP races we did in the U.K. whenever we didn't have a GP (MotoGP) to compete in. This was first time my brother Pat Hennen competed at Scarborough. He finished 3rd in the race and played it pretty safe. Mick and Barry had the track wired and had raced there many times. We really enjoyed racing there. Though a pretty small street circuit, it was a pretty safe track and the locals were wonderful. The track is in a very scenic part of the U.K.

There is an amazing picture of Pat Hennen and Barry Sheene at Brands Hatch. I saw it in realtime,Pat was trying to overtake Barry, along Cooper straight and he got into a slide and the front wheel was 90 degrees to straight, how he never came off l'll never know. Shortly after he crashed at the Isle of Man, and the rest is history

Pat Hennen. Legend. Better rider than Sheene in my opinion. Shame he never got the chance to prove it.

I went to Scarborough almost 40 years ago for a friends 'stag party' weekend. Just four of us on our respective bikes on one of the race weekends. The town was jumping on Saturday night. We were packed into a local watering hole and some idiot threw some type of explosive device into the bar. Blew a hole in the ceiling and took the top of someone's finger who was standing behind me. A lucky escape. The following day we went to the track and I stood at the same hairpin where most of this video was shot. Got some great photos. Could not believe how tight the track was. Made the IoM look like Silverstone.

I think this was probably my first time watching a road race event. I remember parking my '73 T120V Bonneville and crossing the track on a bridge just as the first bikes came down the hill to Mountside Hairpin. The sound and smell of those 2 stroke racers, I was hooked there and then. It's ironic that there is now a Barry Sheene Classic event at Scarborough because he was not well liked by the northern race fans who were all routing for Mick Grant. Bazza was a bit too flash for them. I heard tell that people were poking sticks through the fence as Barry raced by. Barry had no time for the Isle of Man, but kept coming back to Scarborough's TT circuit in miniature.
