The Edge Hill Cutting into historic Lime Street Station is one of the most awe inspiring sights in railroaddom. Especially when considering it was dug out by 1000s of labourers in the early/middle 1800s long before the era of heavy excavation machinery. I still get chills each time I watch a video of the approach.

I've seen it before and it still astounds me.

indeed and the air vents they dug out...amazing shovels picks and wheelbarrows...imagine people today...they would refuse...too mauch hard work,the workers back then wore suits and hats digging...amazing men....and chat moss dont forget...basically sticks...bails of cotton then ballast by the 1000`s of tons all by hand moved to over 30ft high embankment. absolutley stunning .

Well, I never thought I would watch that all the way. It was really interesting following along with Maps and matching the scenery with the map and getting the stations right. Manchester was awkward to follow. Oh well, I wonder where my next trip will be?

Great vid'! Doing the captions & info overlays would be well worth the effort for the benefit of your loyal subscribers / those of us who don't know the route at all, even if it's only flagging each of the stations stopped at or run through. Thanks for putting this one up though 👍

Fantastic. I love the buildings in Dewsbury, very unique. And it was a shame that one car unit at 1.23.20 had an amber light, would have loved a race! Was it going to Huddersfield, Halifax or Hebden Bridge?

the four major stations after leaving scarborough are.York..Leeds..Manchester then Liverpool.not hard really.good game with a map out trying to figure out where you are based on them four major stations. better game than being told all the time. i never use sat nav...more interesting journey without.

I see the train driving on double track, but at 46m00s, in York just before the bridge over river Ouse the track has a few meters single track. Why is that? Was the railway company out of money? (Excuse me for my bad English)

Really I'd like a pro-rail employee to watch these UK-cabview videos (pro-rail is the maintainer of the Dutch railroads). Seeing all those meadows connected to each other over the track with nothing but a "W"-sign for the driver in order to blow the horn (Yes, I know "W" means "Whist;e" as a leftover from the steam era).... They'd all die of a heart attack I tell ya.... Well, that one aside, this is a nice ride, although I am not really a meadow fan, but still... Those mechanical signals... Are they still officially in use? Some of them are placed in a manner that makes me think so, sometimes even with a screen behind them (if you ask me in order not to confuse train drivers coming from the opposite direction, am I wrong?)
@Xenogeek24 жыл бұрын
The Brits are not the only ones culpable. In videos of Austrian branch lines I see that, when a forest trail crosses the train track, there is just a Stop sign with a crossbuck--no gates or lights. The Brits dislike centralization of power. They like to go their own way and do their own thing--an attitude which the Americans inherited.
@TheRealTricky4 жыл бұрын
@@Xenogeek2 "The Brits dislike centralization of power." Oh, really? I hadn't noticed...... (*cough*cough*brexit*cough*cough*).... I do wonder if the concept of a UNITED kingdom does then not go against their own principals... Just saying... But centralization of power and preventing accidents are two different things, and in this case I doubt centralization of power has anything to do with these unsafe situations, but I guess I'll just be too stupid to understand.

It completely baffles me why Trans Pennine trains stop at Lea Green and yet their Manchester Airport to Scotland services go through Bolton without stopping, whoever is in charge clearly has a pea for a brain.

Transpennine express Runs a service from Manchester Airport to Preston, which is the only service that does stop at Bolton.. Northern Rail runs Express services to Blackpool North from Manchester Airport calling at Bolton...

Lovely video. But can't help feel a lot of the route has potential and crying out for investment. With all the money going on projects like HS2. Passengers along this route could benefit. Electrification Station upgrades improving on rolling stock etc. Still great video. I just see lot of potential here
@Oskarjlee3 жыл бұрын
This route is now served by new Class 68 Nova3 units. It would be nice however, to some electrification between Victoria and Leeds.

Was going to ask max speed 90 ?...then saw sign SP 90 lol...IIRC isnt it custom to give 3 tooots at that Sig Box at about 15 mins ?....nice scenery for driver...dont get bored of being stuck in valley ,plenty to look at. shame that when you reach large towns\cities so much shit chucked on tracks etc...people are lazy and dirty. Shame on Leeds so messy approach.
