Update: Jess adopted Winks. In a post on Instagram, she got in touch with Winks’s first foster parent. She posted photos of Winks as a kitten. Sadly, the folks who adopted Winks as a baby failed to properly care for him. He seemed to have already lost an eye as a baby, and his siblings also have FIV. Winks was always a “hugger,” and his former foster adored him. Here’s to many happy years ahead.

Many animals attach to humans as if they're the mother. And some cats will even get sick from the anxiety and trauma of being abandoned
@manthasagittarius18 ай бұрын
To vomm- coming from knowledge of attachment theory, and developmental psych (my area of study). This beastie has the signs of anxious attachment in the rather good sample of behaviors shown here. It is indeed an early history of really flawed or disrupted attachment and then normal separation this cat shows, like any human. She IS his second-chance mother and yes, it IS to cringe about, because he may never progress much further in security. If it makes you cringe for an adult to glom on and attach like a toddler, well -- nah, I won't say it. He has an honestly hungry heart and he may never know true "full," but he is sure not gonna starve in that environment ever, and that is not a cringe.

My Neo was like that. I lost him to a car very early and then cat proofed the entire back yard so there was no escape so it could never happen again with my future cats. I will never forget him, and 17 years later, I still miss him as he was such an amazing boy. He used to let me lay him on his back into his bed. 99.99999% of cats will always turn themselves the right way up but not Neo. He used to sit on my shoulder and just push his face into my face as hard as he could. He genuinely loved being picked up and hugged. I haven't met a cat like him since, my boy after him recently passed away and the girl misses him and is moping around. She is a non confrontational type so I am certain would love a new cat friend, however, this time I am going to go to shelters and simply let the cat choose ME. The boy was a pure bred, the girl who is still alive (12yo) was indeed a rescue from a litter that was dumped on someone's doorstep, but yeah, for sure, I'll be visiting rescues this time, however many it takes:)

I've got a rescue Burmese cat who used to run away from her first home, and the last time she did it, they just surrendered her. She looked so lost and confused in the shelter. Since I was missing my Siamese, who passed away 6 months prior after 18 years, I decided to get this girl. She was very aloof to start with, but when she gave me a cuddle, she really smooched into my neck. I kept her inside for 10 months so she could get used to the dog and other cat and when she finally came outside as soon as she would try to look around the backyard the magpies would swoop at her. So she pretty much stayed under the patio and bathed in the sun. One day, she suddenly jumped up onto my shoulders, and she's been there ever since. She always sits the same way, and she'll lean forward and smooch her face into mine. It's a good thing that she doesn't weigh very much, but she'll often start making biscuits, and she's got the softest purr. Cats like this are rare, and if I had Winkie in my care, I would never let him go. He has definitely chosen you and feels safe with you after having such a hard life, and trust me when I say there is no shame in being a foster fail. .. I've done it with the other beautiful cat I have and you will be forever loved and grateful.

There are more people willing to take in a rescued animal than there are willing to foster and rehabilitate them. @danielfox300310 ай бұрын
Aww, he loves you. There’s something special when a cat chooses you as their person. A cats love is just different. I miss my big headed kitty, he was homeless or maybe even feral. I named him “Meathead” because his head was full of scars from fighting, he was just a big lover. I saw him a few times around my apartment complex in the winter, always looking scraggly, one time I called to him and he ran up the stairs to my second story apartment. I gave him a can of tuna and he gobbled it down so fast, like he was starving. I gave him another (my last can) and he gobbled that one too. I let him come inside, he walked around, a little cautious at first, but within ten minutes he was on my lap purring up a storm. That’s all it took, he never left, except to go outside to do his business. I let him come and go as he pleased, he spent most of his time indoors, preferring to just hang out, taking naps and when he wasn’t napping he’d be on my lap soaking up all the loves and scratches I could give. He slept right next to my pillow every night and would usually stay right there through the night. He was such a great cat, I really miss him. My bestest little buddy.

This is the attitude that people need to adopt more of. If someone is turning their animal over, it shouldn't be immediately viewed as negative. Some folks realize that their situation isn't the best for caring for an animal, but because society has such a negative stigma associated with surrendering an animal, most people won't do it. That hurts both the animal and the person in the long run. I'm glad the rescue organization looked at the owner surrendering the animal as selfless and understood where they were coming from.

"...and then we'll kind of go from there and see if I'm even the best home for him..." Be honest here, lady. You already know that you can give Winks his best life. Keep him, and keep him safe. 🐱

I hope this lady keeps Wink, he obviously trusts her completely and loves her. My heart hurts at the thought of him having to go to another home because he'll probably end up feeling abandoned, scared and confused. You have been chosen lady by the cat gods to protect and love this angle of a boy.

That’s adorable. My very first cat used to stay on mine and husband’s shoulders and we loved it. He’d walk from one set of shoulders to the other. So sweet.
