Literally the best channel on youtube. Because BJJ people underestimate classical kesa gatame it's the way to tap everyone. Big benefit of it is that it's the easiest position to get to from standing position. Just catch someone's head and you got him.

1. This is an absolutely awesome video, thanks. 2. The victim turns more interesting shades of purple as this goes on.

As a beginner white belt, this is now my favorite move. No frills but really effective and it’s not even complicated. Oss 🤙
@w123374 жыл бұрын
xxx Ocampo same here. 2 stripe white belt and kesa gatame with these submissions is always my go to, unless I’m on the bottom then triangles are my go to coz of my super lanky legs. Keeping it simple and familiar is key at this level
@wyattbreymeyer40334 жыл бұрын
no stripe here lol kesa gatame is my favorite so far, especially if my partner has been doing knee on belly alot when i try to pull guard

the guard pass is so nice and effective! Most BJJ clubs don't learn this pass

Yes, I agree, on my second year of training and neither have I been taught nor have I seen or been victim of this pass as of yet.

Modified version of that pass is already very popular called Sao Paulo pass.

Thank you for sharing this. I will take a solid Kesa over mount or nearly any other position. Absolute worst place to find yourself if someone knows how to work it.

Outstanding tutorial! A much-underutilized technique. Will definitely incorporate into my game. Integrates well with my body structure as I have short arms and legs.

very good video. My route is usually stack pass to kesa, your video shortened it

Mahalo for the demo! Kesa gatame is my go to. That was the very first pin I learned in high school. Very powerful attacks from that simple position. Works so well against the non-judo grapplers !😎

I love these videos you guys make, Mark and Sean! I’ve personally trained with both of these amazing instructors and their BJJ/Judo is seriously legit. I use those Kesa submissions all the time. In fact, I used that shoulder lock just yesterday.

I dunno. At 1:27 it seems like uke could just post and try to climb up and around to toris back, am I wrong?
@SeiryokuZenyo3 жыл бұрын
If you maintain head control and keep weight on the leg until the end, it is very difficult for uke to take the back. If he does somehow manage to get behind you, you have another strong pin with ura gatame as well as a straight arm lock. I did address this in another video, kzbin.info/www/bejne/sILKqYBmYpiXf9U just short of the 5 minute mark..
@crossingdragon50323 жыл бұрын
@@SeiryokuZenyo I wrote this comment before testing it out during my rolls. I found that trying it out it really does work how you show it in the video, the only problem I had was pinning their leg and stepping over. Thank for your time :)

thx. worked this last night and had a few of the upper belts revisiting their "fundamentals." I didn't get the tap, but it took them a long time to shut me down.
@harageilucid43526 жыл бұрын
Which part worked?
@averagejew6 жыл бұрын
@@harageilucid4352 I did it 3 times. The pass portion was good, though now they are wise to it. Most guys in our gym rarely pressure forward for a guard pass and putting an arm around the head has never been taught in my 2 years. So I got the surprise factor on it. In the future I will loosen my lapel so that I can grip it from around their head, making the frame out against the neck tough. I got to do the side pressure portion on another white belt in a roll and it sucked, for him, but not enough to tap. The buzzer rang on that one before I could move to the arm bar. There's some solid techniques to counter this, so be mindful of controlling that arm and not letting them connect it in front of your neck for a frame or around your torso to roll you. Also if they do connect their arms in front, a blue belt pointed out that you can switch sides Even though I'm a 4 stripe white belt, In live rolls, my attack skills are limited since I'm old (47), slow and spend 98% of my roll time on defense. The slow mans pressure game is all I've got and this move plays well if your spirit animal is more long toed sloth than mongoose. I can't out hustle these guys in their 20s and 30s and have to play a different game.
@harageilucid43526 жыл бұрын
Andy: Thanks a lot for your reply. The pass is the piece im most skeptical of so its interesting to me that it worked for you, even if it might partly be surprise factor. Holding thehead up seems good but otherwise it contradicts the number one principal i was told about being in guard; posture up.
@averagejew6 жыл бұрын
@@harageilucid4352 I was skeptical too but IMO the pass is solid, especially if you connect your hand to your lapel AND you pin their arm on your way through like he did. Your risk of sweep or attack is much lower vs other passes where you battle arm bars, triangles and chokes. You may get slowed up if their feet won't unlock, but like he said, just keep pressure/adjust and it will break. It's tough sledding though for you if you let them frame against your throat and you don't have a grip on your lapel... your bicep muscles will never beat that frame and you'll lose their head and your back. I'm not at that foot lock level that he showed, but that's there too. OSS. BTW when I did it, I didn't wait for them too pull me into guard and break me down... I let them have the guard and started smashing forward so I could test it. They definitely were not expecting that the first time and now they've got to beware.

I'm seriously interested in trying out that guard pass at the start of the video.....who has experience with it ?
@SeiryokuZenyo5 жыл бұрын
It is my go-to pass when I am in someone's closed guard. I have an extremely high success rate with it. Just remember to keep flat and never let up the pressure on your opponent's leg until you are completely clear. The first few times until you get comfortable with the pass, you may end up having your back taken if you lose control of your opponent's head. If that starts to happen, turn into your opponent and try to establish side control.

Jitsu Lee yea because 50 years of grappling wouldn't know about the risks and payoffs of every technique... sit down kid, and learn to add to your grappling education, you never know, you might just pull this pass off after having your posture broken.
