@@KnightJiuJitsu We filmed a pressure-lock submission from Kesa we call "The Hawk." It's brutal...probably illegal in most events...very difficult to escape...what's your favorite escape from the scarf-hold?

Can’t wait to see it. My favorite escape depends a lot, but generally if it’s regular kesa, I like the leg hooking, climbing escape. I also like to hook the arm with my leg if I can....I have a video somewhere of it.

You can also set up a nasty swim choke (reverse arm triangle) as you transition the leg over the head, people often push it away thinking an attack is coming, giving you an easy opportunity to breast stroke that arm into place and attack a reverse arm triangle.

Thank you, we had an open mat today and I keep taking scarf hold as I find it hard to keep king side control because I can never bring my leg close enough to my opponents arm pit to control the inside space due to my own mobility. I find Scarf Hold a great place for me to dominate especially because of my strength and size. I just sat here playing your video over and over again taking notes for the past 40 minutes 🤣🤣

Lovely stuff. Was very much taken in by the judo kesa but am coming around to using the BJJ version once more. Any thoughts on the pros and cons of the two variations?
@KnightJiuJitsu Жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t necessarily call one or the other a judo version or jiu-jitsu version - Kesa has several variations, like ushiro, Makura, kuzure, etc. Each definitely have their pros and cons. I think that broken scarf, kuzure Kesa, is one of the best because of the stability and variety of submission options available from it.

Just Sub'd! Great content. I'm currently a new white belt. 2-3 months training. I find that scarf hold is a good go to for me right now. Especially against others on similar level as me. Love applying that pressure once I get to side control. My question is do you think I can consistently apply this even with more skilled opponents in the future? Or should I not learn to be so dependent on it? (Scarf hold that is) Any advice would be great. Thank you sir.
@KnightJiuJitsu3 жыл бұрын
If it works, it works. I think with anything like this, you can catch even advanced people now and in the future, but timing and technique dictate that. I would recommend to always have backup plans and combinations into and out of these techniques to insure your success with it in the future though. Thank you for the comment!

Apologies for the remark, but isn't this a broken scarf hold (kuzure kesa gatame) instead of a scarf hold? Isn't it supposed to be shoulder to rib instead of rib to rib?
@KnightJiuJitsu2 жыл бұрын
Yes. There’s a lot of variations of scarf, and I typically distinguish between the different types, but ultimately, as long as there’s a general reference for the position, I try not to get too particular in quick videos.

@blitzthekraken98324 жыл бұрын
The best submission...I think for that position is if your controlling the arm and can't catch the armlock you let the arm stay between the leg and step over the head using the reverse triangle. You lean back and catch the leg, ripping it away, controlling the entire body. The reverse triangle isn't used a lot in BJJ, but in Judo it is frequent because it is not only a great pin, but it is a nasty strangle. Check out the video and watch how she uses the reverse triangle in her Newaza from all kinds of angles. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJXLnYp_l9isgpI

Good stuff, but not scarf hold. Having the far arm in negates this as a scarf hold (kesa gatame). This would be a shoulder hold (kata gatame) or in plain old bjj speak a switch base side control.

@@KnightJiuJitsu I know it's not relevant to the video but I wanted to ask this sir. Why do people keep getting out of my arm triangles? What usually happens is I get them in a n arm triangle, they keep pushing towards me and eventually turn to face me and the first thing they do for that is grab my leg by getting theirs under mine while they are in the triangle I saw some guys like Ryan hall, Stephan Kesting telling to push with the collar bone while pressuring the arm with your chest(or I got something wrong here perhaps?) But my coach told me to get my shoulder as low as possible. It did work but as a neck crank. What's the problem here and how do I deal with it?
@KnightJiuJitsu4 жыл бұрын
@@Tanishqkanojia1163 - That is a little tough to say without seeing how you are setting up and finishing. I would say though, that making sure you are flattening out on the finish can be a big detail. Also, a helpful tip is to go from gable grip with your hands to climbing your hands higher up your wrists and then forearms. I learned this detail from Mario Sperry and it changed a lot for me.
