People seem to forget that Scarface is actually a remake of the 1932 movie of the same name starring Paul Muni. There are some fun-facts about it. Al Pacino grabbed the the barrel of the gun. Which was red hot after being fired. Caused Al Pacino to scream in severe pain. Geno Silva who played the Hitman with the shotgun. Heard him yell and thought "Jesus this guy is really going for it". Al Pacino's hand was burned so bad that he was unable to work for two weeks. That forced Brian De Palma to film around Al Pacino until he could work again. The girl who distracted Manny in the car disappeared after filming her scenes. Tammy Lynn Leppert. She's been missing for over 39 years. I read articles and different stories circulated about her disappearance and the strange days leading up to it. I think her story is even on Unsolved Mysteries. Miami was so riddled with drug violence in the late 70s and early 80s that it spawned this movie and the tv series Miami Vice. Unlike the Godfather , there's no redeeming qualities in these characters. Although popular, it wasn't so popular with critics when it came out. It was also realeased in December, so quite a Christmas gift. Keep up the good work.

Good info. As an ‘add-on’ of info, George Raft played Rinaldo in the 1932 version. Raft was a star of stage and screen, from the 1920s-1970s, as well as one of the finest professional dancers of his era. What most don’t know is he was a close friend and driver for Owney ‘The Killer’ Madden, a notorious gangster and one of two Irish gangsters with a vote on the original Commission of organized crime in 1931. When James Cagney was President of SAG in the 1940s, a hit was taken out on him for his efforts to get the mafia out of the film industry. Cagney found out about, he called George Raft, who called Owney, who called the head of the Commission, Frank Costello, who had the contract terminated.

The story takes place in Miami and they filmed almost everything in Los Angeles, because I think I read somewhere that the government of Miami did not give them authorization, believing that they were going to give a bad image to the city in the film, as a city of crime, and it is very crazy because 2 years later they did authorize the production of the series Miami Vice to film there.

Funfact: The chainsaw scene was heavily edited down upon theatrical release - to avoid the dreaded X rating. It was later re-installed on an NC-17 rating upon re-release on laser disc, and even cleaned up and polished upon future DVD and Blu-ray releases of the movie under the "unrated" heading. At the time, and in the early 80's, it was widely believed to be the most gruesome and brutal death scene ever depicted on major cinema. What you're watching is the original edit - re-installed, and nothing cut down. Moreover, the censors had an issue with "Octavio" being shot in the Babylon Club... that was also removed for the theatrical cut, but was re-installed in all NC-17 and "uncrated" editions of the movies.
@bobcobb36542 күн бұрын
The “X-rated” cut of the film (chainsaw scene and all) is the version that got put out in theaters with an R-rating. (There is no unrated director’s cut. DePalma’s preferred version is what came out). DePalma said in an interview on the anniversary DVD that he had to make dozens of edits after the first 2 cuts got an X-rating. The producer appealed the decision to the MPAA on grounds it accurately depicted the level of violence in the Miami drug trade in the 80s, and it was granted an R-rating on appeal. After that, De Palma slapped the approved sticker on his first cut and the producers didn’t notice.

Great reaction to one of my favorite movies. I noticed in one of your comments that you have a sharp eye when you stated a scene looked more like California than Florida. According to the film producer in the DVD extra's the original plan was to film the entire movie in the Miami area of Florida. However, when filming started in Miami the local Cuban community did not take kindly to it because they felt Cuban's were being stereotyped as drug dealers and protested the movie sets. So, principal filming was moved to California with only key outdoor shots filmed in Miami.

I saw this when I was fifteen (lied about my age : it was HARD restricted to 16+ in Quebec) and I caught it on a *gigantic* screen with booming audio. It has become impossible to explain what an impact the film had on American cinema : it was a modest success at the box office, ranking 16th that year, but it was _FOUNDATIONAL_ to a crop of up-and-coming filmmakers. This kind of graphic, raw violence had not been seen since Sam Peckinpah's THE WILD BUNCH and, we forget, SCARFACE predates all of the Stallone / Schwarzenegger actioners we think of from the 80's with the exception of FIRST BLOOD released a year earlier: TERMINATOR, LETHAL WEAPON, DIE HARD : all have at least some of their DNA spliced from this film. Good on DePalma!

What a ride and what a reaction. I can't believe I snuck into the theater to watch this when it first came out in the 80s. I was 10 years old 😮

Definitely a lot of this was shot in LA. The riot scene at the beginning where Rebenga is assassinated was shot under the 405/10 freeway interchange.

To the unsung star of Scarface, Oliver Stone. "Say hello to my little friend", amongst many other quotable lines.

I loved this movie. It was a part of my college years. It influenced a generation of us. You are one of my top 3 reactors. I listen to around 10-20 at any given time. Also, the vehicle is pronounced por · shuh. I have owned a few. Cheers !

His friend played in 'Breaking Bad.' He was the Mexican drug lord in the later seasons that had the swimming pool. The guy in the wheelchair from 'Breaking Bad' is also in this movie LOL

To this day....the bathtub scene where Tony says "look at these pelicans fly" still makes me laugh. They're flamingos

Excellent reaction, this movie never gets old. Also more reaction channels should have this movie in the queue list at least, seems like no one checks it out at all.

There had never been and will never be again a place like 80’s Miami. Stylish. Loud. Extraordinary.
