The representation of the autism community in this movie, especially towards the end, is absolutely beautiful. Especially with Justine as Wollf’s partner. Also I love how even though he never hints at it to anyone else in the movie, Christian is a true nerd and fanboy. Not only does he have Luke’s first lightsaber from A New Hope, he also has a copy of Action Comics #1, which was the comic that introduced the world to Superman. One of those copies sold at an auction for 1 million dollars!

27:45 Speaking as someone on the spectrum, this scene is one of my favorites. Notice how he becomes much more animated, emotional, and uses more eye contact. He is talking about something within his narrow set of interests, with someone who shares that interest. This aspect of the autistic spectrum, having narrow and intense interests, is well-represented. Also, I appreciate his intense emotional reaction when a task is unfinished or his system is disrupted. Overall, this is one of the better movies for autism.

I’m autistic and growing up I had the same sensory overload problems Ben’s character had. People often think our senses are “stronger” but they’re actually just extremely sensitive. So the way I adapted to them by using the same type of exposure therapy Christian used in the movie. Playing loud music or going to loud construction sites to desensitize myself to it. It’s still loud, but it’s not affecting me nearly as bad as when I was a kid, and I can hide it entirely from everyone.

About the dad: Training and abuse are close cousins. A few things to consider: When the martial arts instructor wanted to quit the kid told him it's okay keep going, when the kid grows up he keeps the level of intensity and training with the shin workout used by Muay Thai and MMA fighters, and also consider that both kids loved their father. Training is abuse you give yourself to reach a goal. The father started it but the kids kept pursuing it. Wouldn't surprise me if many Olympians had dads like this guy.
@paytongibson9488Ай бұрын
Yeah I can attest to the training part first week I started muay thai my trainer gave me glass bottles to rub on my shins , we moved up to bars after a while it's so the shins are stronger and don't break easily when kicking .... PS my shins are like Braille now but still never broke once 😂

I love that in this movie the hardass dad ends up being the one who did the best for his different child, instead of the mom. The mom couldn't handle it and left, the dad stuck around but taught him using strict and perhaps "unethical" methods. So, it's like a moral dilemma of is better to stick around for your child, even if you have to be hard on them, rather than leaving them.

I always forget how good this movie is. The storytelling is so layered and nuanced. If you're not paying attention, there's a good chance you're not gonna connect all the dots. And the action scenes are really kinetic and fun. Plus, Wolfe is such a cool character, and the perfect way to write a character on the spectrum. I saw that Double Toasted criticized this movie for turning autism into a superpower. But I don't think they realized that this is a character who has lived an extremely regimented life from a young age, not to mention (based on Affleck's age at the time) Wolfe easily has 20+ years of military training.

This film is one of my top ten, maybe top five films, of the last ten years. I think a lot of people slept on this one because not only is it action-oriented, but it has a twisty plot that keeps you on your toes and makes good use of its flashbacks. Plus, I think it uses levity in just the right amount. And it’s the same with reveals. It only has the two big ones, one you see coming and the other you don’t, to make it far from over reliant on them to make you feel engaged. It’s just a solid film that I can on watch repeat any day of the week.

Damn, Kendrick's intake of breath at 1:07:48 gets me. Every. Single. Time. Her character knows what she's just received and it takes her breath away. So much emotion in that moment, cut in with Affleck's grin. For him, it's a huge gesture in how he feels about Kendrick's character. I was the Key Grip on this show, and it was a privilege to work such talented and pleasant (at least on set) people, both in front of and behind the camera. The Director of Photography, Seamus McGarvey, was one of the nicest and most talented cameramen I have ever worked with and the stunt coordinator was the same guy who choreographed the stairwell fight in Atomic Blonde. Ben Affleck reminded me of a quarterback, big, tall, hansom and smart. He carried that Barrett 50 cal sniper rifle like it was a 22! Anna just made my heart melt. It was nice to see Bernthal again. I had worked with him on The Walking Dead. I remember JK Simmons got word of his Oscar nomination while we were shooting the scene at Affleck's character's house. The chance to work on a project like this is rare. I'm glad I was able to be there.

My oldest, 20, is very introverted, but can be very social when he's around people... and turned out to be surprisingly witty and often the Life of the party. Lol! My youngest, however, is more reserved with very little social ability, but super intelligent. He started reading at 2 years old and catches on very quickly to anything he's taught academically. Autism is such a sensitive topic it's so difficult to display without causing offense. As a child of the "gifted"-program in school (*wink wink *nudge nudge) I have to say this one feels like autistic fantasy-fulfillment 😄 This one I think the most important things it shows are: 1. It's not all sunshine and rainbows. He doesn't get an autistic super-power. His childhood is ROUGH, and the parent he has...while well-meaning... turns to a pretty abusive form of parenting to cope. That's not out of the realm of reality by any stretch. 2. His 'super powers' don't come from the fact that he's super-autistic. That just happens to be something that makes him extra good at his job as an accountant 🤷♂ His 'super-powers' were a result of years of conditioning he underwent to survive his abusive childhood. His father trained him to be an assassin. Being an accountant was the only aspect of his character that was truly a result of his autism and there's nothing unrealistic about that in the slightest 🤷♂😅 The only unrealistic autism-related-aspect of this movie is the fact that he just immediately finds the dopest little non-verbal Moneypenny sidekick a young autistic boy could ever hope to find on Day 1 of special school and I'm not mad I'm just jealous as hell 😭😭😭🤣

This is such a great performance from Ben Affleck for real. He kills it in this movie. He is totally believable as someone on the spectrum but also a badass. Cannot wait for the sequel I’m so glad they’re making one!

Wet, LMFAO! Underrated movie and I loved it also. I think their on screen chemistry was phenomenal.

If you guys are Anna Kendrick fans I recommend checking out the movie 50/50. It stars her, Jason Gordon Levitt, Seth Rogan, and more. It's a truly touching yet jokingly cute movie. It'll bring you through the motions. I think I'll rewatch it myself tonight too. ❤

I'm so glad you enjoyed this movie! It's such a sleeper movie. And so good! I love the slow burn of the pacing and the twist of it. Loved the reaction of you two when the realization hit. Can't wait to see the second movie!
