The man in the basement you rescued, who burned the Bathouse, is Yoko's son. In Monk's note, killing the son says hold off so the monk is keeping him there all this time. I don't know for what reason the Monk decided to keep him alive to torture. The Pink Old lady's granddaughter is the first sacrifice that's why she placed flowers at the entrance and then Maina's the second. Erena will be the third that's why the spirit was set free in the bad ending. The yokai Ubume is about a spirit of a woman that died during childbirth or while pregnant. It has connection with the doll you threw in the trash. It's actually an interesting concept but for me didn't get presented well by Chilla's art.

So, for anyone who doesn’t know, “Ubume” are yokai of women who died during childbirth. (Yokai are a type of spirits, in Japanese folklore, who differ in behavior as well as their appearances.) It’s common to bury the fetus with the mother, who has died during childbirth, and place it in the women’s arms as if she’s hugging her child. Though, in some regions of Japan, it is not legal to cut out the fetus. So, as an alternative, a doll is placed in the arms of the mother, instead of the child. This could’ve been why there were dolls in the apartment rooms. Though, it’s still kinda unclear why the monk wanted to create an Ubume.

The priest tried killing the pissing guys mother(who is now a ghost)before the pissing guy could be born but was too late. The guy wanted revenge for his mother I’m guessing but they caught him when cory let him into the bath. They imprisoned him in the basement but cory freed him, and so he burned the bathhouse down with the priest and landlord inside.

I like how, in the Good Ending, the policeman told Erena, the little sister, that no one should be living in the village. This really gave me the intense mystery of the oddities that's been going on in there. Though, it's kinda sad that Maina will be forgotten, considering that all her family will have the "amnesia" effect (or it's just Erena herself).

This game definitely had the potential to be interesting and way scarier. Something that Chilla's Art needs to work on is their storytelling, not just through dialogue (internal or otherwise), but through the environment and character interactions as well. Closing Shift was a near-perfect game from their roster just because everything flowed together so well, and players could take the hints sprinkled through the game and come to a conclusion themselves before the game even spells it out for them. This one, and even games like the train one, was trying too hard to be deep or convoluted, that the endings barely meshed together or made sense. Another thing: since this game deals with the mythos of Ubume, I wish they could let the player explore the lore of this yokai even more throughout the game, ESPECIALLY since they have so many non-Japanese players that might not be familiar with it. It's getting really lame to always just get an explanation at the end; it doesn't give the player an "aha!" moment, nor does it let us be interested in the motivations of this spirit. It really, really could've been good. But hey, Cory! You still made it a really fun horror playthrough to watch, as you always do. Can't wait for the next playthrough!
