For anyone wondering, as of his last podcast episode Danny is still going strong sober!!

the elf on the shelf lyric could potentially be talking about the "elf bar" brand of vape, which the cover of this dlc album is based on

That Puffy comment about his heavy hand when it comes to sampling was too funny. I'll just add that it took some time for me to come around to Danny's style of rap but I did, some time ago. He's a skilled rapper and lyricist, I hope he works through whatever it is that drives him over the edge.

About the Eric Garner line, I think he’s pointing out the irony because Eric was confronted about selling illegal single cigs. Great review as always!
@wboosh. Жыл бұрын
100%, and not only that but also the idea that eric garner was killed by police for something as innocent as that meanwhile danny was able to scrape by despite doing crimes that "should" come with more punishment- even then its not death, so he pays respect by smoking the loosie cig on the corner where others didnt make it for doin less. Im not sure I articulated this very well but I love this line & this whole project. Full of gold from both of them
@wboosh. Жыл бұрын
And i just put this together now- but the black komani cheat code line connects to this as well, talking about how black people are targeted more and even killed in the case of eric garner for doing , and so to make it as far as they have, they must have had cheated some extra lives , so fire - Also - Cheating Death

AVAA, love this stuff. I do think you should give XXX by Danny Brown a second listen though. There are a lot of really serious personal songs on that album. Basically the entire second half, even the final track try’s to trick you like it’s going to go back slips into this really heavy/personal verse about his life. At one point is literally screaming and but he regains his composure, it’s sooo sooo sooo good. Danny is one of my all time favorites.

For the "oh whatever man" phrase, it made me think of battle rappers' cadence and use of comedy, delivery, and misdirection to get big reactions from the audience. Perhaps connects Danny back to his Detroit roots? Just a thought!
@johndalegend8541 Жыл бұрын
Danny has talked several times about him watching battle rapping on his podcast, so you might be on to something
@wboosh. Жыл бұрын
And on the "Oh whatever man" I think you got it on point, but i heard someone else have a good analysis talking about detroit battle rap, where they would often throw away bars like that and then follow it up with a punchline, and of course danny brown is from detroit and also references the city elsewere on the project

I love how you mentioned Gyöngyhajú Lány at the end of New Slaves right before you left to visit Hungary. And yes please I would love to hear your thoughts about Omega! Even though I'm Hungarian I know close to nothing about our older music scenes, and I hate almost everything contemporary that is Hungarian, even though I am somewhat knowledgeable in that field at least. Anyway, I digress. Would love an Omega video and I hope my country treats you well! Have a lovely vacation!

AAVA Skye I think you’re gonna be out and about when this comes out on Friday but I’d really love it if you could cover Paris Texas’ debut Mid-Air once you come back. These dudes are doing something special when it comes to the wonderful fusions of rap and rock (they even rap about it)! Really think their sound fits the Skye-verse and I wanna hear your thoughts on it, singles so far have been 10/10.

There are many examples of young thug “messing up on purpose”. One of my favorites is on the song Halftime where he says “bring that sh#t back like re-CY-cles” with the CY eleongated so it’s off beat. After he says that he lets out a single on beat “HA” and then he’s locked back in. Crazy stuff.

On the Black Code lines, do you think it might be referencing the Black Code(s), the proto-Jim Crow laws passed prior to the 14th amendment?
