Scarlatti: Sonata in D Minor, Kk. 517 / Alessandro Simonetto, Harpsichord

Here my rendition of this famous sonata. I am still not happy about my playing but I promise I'll do my best to improve it.
Post scriptum. On this video I don't always play the lowest A. That's because at the time it had some problems coming up after played... Anyway, on the final recording - see on open.spotify.c... - this was fixed (except for the ritornellos where I maintained a "varied" version). Thanks for understanding.

In a "Texas STEEL CAGE Match," two keyboardists would walk into a Steel Cage. Each would sit a harpsichordist. They would alternate in playing a given sonata and then repeat the challenge with another sonata. At the end, only one harpsichordist would walk out of the cage alive.

As far as I know, neither Handel, Bach, Couperin nor Rameau ever composed a keyboard sonata as mind-blowing as this one (marked "prestissimo"). Think about it.

I've listened to just about every recording of this sonata that exists on the internet (embarrassing), and I'm yet to find one that tops your performance of the piece on your album on Spotify. You have an extremely impressive understanding of the spirit and nuance of Scarlatti's style. Keep it up- we can't wait for your recordings of the next 535 😉

It’s normal at the harpsichord: A=415 Hz. Or: it’s now that is haft step up. 🤣

Tunings up through the Baroque were all over the place, and although different countries seem to have had trends in their tuning (for example German _kammerton_ very roughly around A[4] = 415 Hz and _chorton_ very roughly around A[4] = 466 Hz), considerable variation was common even in one country.
