I agree about the tempo. She gives this piece a quality that I would call introspective or pensive. I have heard many pianists play too fast to the point they could not play the fastest bars of a piece without dropping notes or tripping over their own fingers. And Tiffany has a lightness with that, which totally fits this sonata IMO. There are a lot of so-called famous pianists, especially the ones that seem unable to afford a bit more money to the cloth of their dresses, that play so fast, that I would ask them, when face to face with them, have you ever had a partner to whom you said "it's not a race?" This is what they do to my brain. Yes, that is opinionated. But, as you imply, Tiffany hits the right note.

Really beautiful light and shade and a splash of colour. Every phrase is pleasure. Crazy how a reduction in tempo totally changes the character of the piece. It becomes so melodic and charming. Listening to her interpretations of The Well Tempered Clavier transformed the way I thought about Bach and the immense possibilities in his music. Now I have discovered Tiffany Poon who brings her own voice to Scarlatti and leaves others sounding dull and un engaged. I would love to hear a whole cycle of Scarlatti, Bach and Handel keyboard pieces and look forward to those recordings that must inevitably be part of your road ahead. I dont know what word to say. As cliche as this might sound, There is something special about Tiffany. I have heard many pianists, but pianist meaning what she/he is playing, is a rare quality. And every time I hear Tiffany on the piano, she has already made each piece a part of her life it sounds. I do not say only the sound, but also the atmosphere she creates. And every time I hear her playing, I picture squirrels here and there. Pianist that draws art. What a lively person.

I remember when I was playing this piece. I came into New York to try it on every piano I could find along piano row on W 58th Street. One place had a Steinway B and a Mason & Hamlin BB sitting together. This piece was all I needed to evaluate the qualities of the pianos I tried. The Steinway was more soloistic, the Mason & Hamlin more orchestral. Fazioli had yet to make a presence in New York, but I am sure this piece would have told me plenty about them as well. The other day I listened to you practicing and knew exactly what you were doing and why. You have a good set of ears. I can tell. Onward and best

Hello, I'm new to Classical. There must be something there for me because I've kept coming back for a drink of water until two things happened; Tiffany Poon & Scarlatti. I'd never heard of Scarlatti until Tiffany. Now I'm livin' at the waterhole. K380 so far has been my favorite and I've been unable to get this version of the song out of my head for about 2 weeks now. I listened to 5 other people play K380...all were faster, some played it harder; but the slower, softer way Tiffany plays it turns this song into something completely different...personal and intimate, resolute and tidy. There is almost an OCD quality about it that appeals to me. Of the other Scarlatti Sonatas I've heard so far I have to say I like about half of them. And Tiffany, I'm noticing songs I haven't enjoyed by others I do enjoy when you play them. I'm still learning as to how much latitude is proper for individual expression by a pianist which makes their version distinctive from others...and I love the finger twirls on the keyboard!
