Also my first show at the impressionable age of 15, I wasn't exactly sure what LSD was as I gobbled down 4 hits but I soon found out, I was everywhere in the Stadium before before the show was over from a catered, carpeted sky box to the upper deck for OMSN and Sugar Magnolia. Clouds of sweet smoke rose off the audience while front row dead heads threw long stemmed red roses at Jerry's feet. Also in the skybox there was closed circuit video feed of the whole show, so it's out there somewhere. When I came down (the next day) I was changed for life here I am at age 53 still listening every day.

This was my first Dead concert, it was a hot sunny day. Caught a burn. Camped out the night before with friends and the next day I ran into half my town from East Rockaway Long Island. What a blast we had.

I'll always remember the diamond vision screens in Giants stadium that day, basically a quote: "Want to take a trip? ... Grateful Dead Giza Egypt". Their next shows after 9/2/78 was on to Egypt.

I love when Jer took some extra laps of the Scarlet instrumental. It meant he was playing well and was confident. ..and how he made it different every time - and often brilliant - at least in the post-hiatus, Godchaux period, from when Scarlet met Fire...April, 77?

In the back groun of that jam it sounds like Bob Weir is replacing a brokestring while Jerry was extending the jam ,coving up for weir to get the string changed . The sound of a string being tuned is heard inthe background and jerry's extended jam adds up to an excellentr cover up of a broken string in the middle of a great jam

Scarlet/Fire is second only to Barton Hall (IMHO)-depends on mood, but it is one of the best! Lots of folks jumped on the bus this show.

The Scarlet from 9/2/78 Giants and the Fire from 5/8/77 Barton Hall still isn't quite as good as Cedar Falls, Iowa 2/5/78.

It was Donna who sang with Willie Nelson. Waylon Jennings was supposed to play (Waylon Willie) and NRPS. Was a fine way to spend a Saturday....
@mosesgarner24045 жыл бұрын
@@BugsBunnysBrother Yeah...I wasn't there but from what I have read it was Donna Jean Godchaux. Appearance wise I can see why someone would think Donna was Emmy Lou Harris for sure.

Really good version. So smooth and silky in the latter half of Fire. They kind of drop the ball in the outro though.

Garcias, and the bands for that matter, particular blend of cocaine this evening should be analyzed, mass produced, and put in the Smithsonian.....Phil is particularly jammed up during scarlet

Jerry's solo during Scarlet before the last verse may be the best he's olayed. Its incredible, not one bad note and he's reaching for new heights the whole time. It peaks perfectly, its incredibly lyrical and it has some unique riffs even for Jerry. Keith is playing well too

Too bad this show was cut short when Jerry was spotted by a cop smoking junk during drums and they had to pull the plug and flee. This really excellent Scarlet Fire shows the band teetering on the abyss - their powers are intact but their demise is already visible. Very sad.

this scarlet fire is incredibile, although this concert has the worst sugar mag ever. Trainweck version
I didn’t enjoy this concert as much as I should have…..Giants Stadium seemed cold concrete plastic…when I had been seeing them in gyms and hockey rinks but this was a high lite
