The tarot idea I really like , I’ve been trying to find a way to represent one of my deities, without statues cause non of them really vit the image I had in my mind, plus I don’t like using statues , so I’m defiantly gonna pull the tarot card that represents them and use that on my altar !

This will date me, but years ago I was in a bar with a group where Janet Farrar explained she'd once seen Alex Sanders cast a circle marking ritual tools only as a salty pretzel (earth) a lit cigarette (air) his lighter (fire) and a pint of beer (water.) and that was all.

This! As pagans, we must realize that part of our journey of connecting closer with Earth is taking into account the ways in which we are affecting her. It kind of makes me cringe a bit when I see people buying large bulk amounts of unethical items for their practice on sketch websites just because they’re “cheap”. It might be cheap for us but it comes with a greater price to our Mother Earth when all of that ends up in the landfill. Thank you for highlighting this important topic. It had such great tips. Some other ideas I like are crafting your own things for your practice! And also I have found plenty of things for my altar at second hand stores, which is such a nice option if you’re someone who likes a lot of things on your altar.

Something that I think really livens up my room and altar are glass bottles (of small to middle size) holding plants. I especially like finding plants that grow lots of roots in water easily, since that reminds me of the Roman Goddess Ops, but it can really stand as a symbol for any sort of earth-y deity or spirit you have a connection with.

My favorite tools are definitely the natural items I gather from outside. Honestly gathering things on my nature walks is what made me into a pagan (lol). I realized I was making crafts with the pine needles, mushrooms, flowers, etc I collected and basically made mojo trinkets for my apartment. Three years later and I'm still rocking the natural supplies! THANK YOU for this video and for being a community innovator Scarlet. you mean so much to so many! hugs!!

Thanks so much for this. It is an important topic that does not get enough attention. Personally I was also trained to use the tarot deck as a meditation aid. This was coupled with the idea of "building the astral temple" which can make anyplace you have set aside work for ritual. A friend of mine who teaches meditation once told me that when learning she focused on breath meditation since "it was free and no one could take it from me".

I particularly find using things such as tarot cards, oracle cards, loose pictures (from photo albums or cut out from magazines), drawings, crystals, and items from nature as correspondences for "tools" I do not have or cannot use. I can't tell you how difficult it was in the beginning for me to practice witchcraft as someone who has birds! I have to be very vigilant of my environment because of their delicate respiratory systems so I cannot use candles, or burn sage or anything inside my home, not even diffusers or anything that emits scent as it is harmful to my babies. Their safety comes first. I do enjoy burning sage and candles outside though, so occasionally I will perform spellwork out there under a full moon, which I LOVE doing. However, in terms of convenience and living situation I really depend on using these aforementioned inexpensive items as correspondences. And I save a lot of money. :-)

I didn't think about how tricky it must be to have an altar when you have pet birds. For me I have two cats and they are always knocking things off my altar. 😓😼😼

I remember when you start out and you read books and you want to go out and buy stuff and either you can't afford it and feel let down or you over load and, meh. I've found it can take a while to find the right pieces and when they're supposed to come along, they do. It took me *years* trying different things before i found just the right bowl for 'water' on my personal alter and it was a small almost cup like thing my sister in law gave me because she thought I'd like the pattern.

Poker cards are a great divination tool as well, as long as you make sure you use the cartomancy meanings not the tarot ones. They're cheaper, easier to find, and inconspicuous if you live in a Christian household like me.

Do you think that astrology is valid or is it just a bunch of nonsense? I've had issues with the idea that our personalities are based our star charts and are not unique to us as individuals.
@ScarletRavenswood3 жыл бұрын
Great question! I don't think our personalities are based on our star charts. I think it's more like the planets and the cosmos 'rhymes' with our existence here on Earth. It's like the 'As above, so below' concept. What's happing here is mirrored in the heavens and what's happening with the planets is mirrored in what's happening here in our lives. I would recommend the book Cosmos and Psyche by Richard Tarnas that goes into this idea much deeper. :)
