Gotcha over $30k, my dude! And with a really big purchase. Had to pick up all the Jawbreakers comics I was missing! Along with the Kuffz Origin and Knifehand Blindspot stories! Also picked up MYB!

Without a hint of irony Kelly Thompson writes characters talking in the same manner Team America made fun of 20 years ago. Only she also has them blabber on endlessly while doing it.

The "I have a pussy and I fart" is a great analogy for the current state of female rappers that are mainstream. Thank you Zack for taking us on that journey of shame and self loathing. Most of the modern G.I. Joe books are decent but this one is only pretty on the outside. CB:CB backer #191 here! Get it while you can!

Part of me still wants to believe that Dustborn was a satire. Especially because it was made by a Norwegian studio and 1-they're not Sweden 2-it's reasonable to think Europeans would satirize the American woke culture, even though they do the same thing (but less obsessively focused on black people) C'mon... you literally PRESS BUTTONS to become triggered and shout "You're racists!" or "Cancel!". There is no way. I want to believe...

"You can't run with Duane Swierczynski!" is such a good insult. It may only hurt a little at first, but that one's popping back up in their mind as they are lying in bed, and it will cost them some sleep pondering it.

Someone's got to tell Kelly Thompson, just because Scarlett has red hair, it doesn't mean she has to be written like Ruby Rose's Batwoman, "I'm a womaaaan!" I feel she watched that show and made this as a sort of fanfiction homage. Female comedians and rappers think low brow guy humor is absolutely hilarious when they do it, looking at you Amy Schumer.

Bad writing, like stupidity itself, isn't susceptible to analysis: it's badly written because it's stupid, and it's stupid because it's badly written. There's nothing deeper to dig your way down to.

Yeah Scarlett's been rough. It's like the mold that's infecting the other good ones of this Energon Universe. I agree, the art is cool and they're using a lot of the designs from the modern classified action figures, which is great synergy. But holy moly. I stopped buying scarlett after the second issue, hoping that it would sort itself out, but nope.

When it comes to Terminator you can always ignore most of it if you don't like it because of the various timelines. I just wish we would have got more of The Sarah Conner Chronicles aka the best timeline. (1,2 and SCC) With the two video games it is funny because one did so badly it was shut down in under a full month after the real release and the other one was government funded propaganda. Hopefully people will forget about these games soon and pay attention to all the good ones coming out like The Casting of Frank Stone.

I only like Harley Quinn from TAS but I include comic adaptations to be part of that. The monthly comic from the 90s was quite enjoyable. I do not like the live action version of the character and I don't read current comic titles very often.

Tbf, there's little nuggets of good in just about all of the tainted franchises nowadays: - Star wars has jedi fallen order - There are(or at least were) a few decent runs in the big two, comics wise and we've got new ultimates/absolute universe to get away from main continuity silliness -heard most of the GIjoe comics were solid outside of this one -Transformers has had a pretty solid string of media as of late Solid suff still exists but you gotta dig nowadays And yes, that rapper dichotomy is 100% accurate

Doing Duke and Cobra Commander miniseries to prologue the Joe main series seemed logical, and I liked them both, but then I saw Scarlet and Destro and was like, okay how many of these are we doing? I wasn't interested but thought maaaaaybe I'd get them in TPB. Then I saw who was working on Scarlet, and I immediately knew the entire plot instinctively. Hard pass.

A couple things: Black _Widow-whoa-we._ Can't unhear it. But I'm also here for it. :| Also, a comic book about a special forces unit during operation would be the shortest book ever. There would be no words on any panels, just direct action. It'd be like 4 pages. To put it into perspective, a guy I used to play D&D with was a ranger. A common refrain for him was, "I go, I'm there, what do I see? :| " I don't really know how to describe it exactly- patient impatience, perhaps? If that guy is indicative of the unit, I got the impression that they don't like to wait, and they definitely don't like to talk about it, is all I'm saying. I recognize that that wouldn't make for the best book ever, but this sh!t is absurd. You got a quarter of the panel devoted to a midol commercial every page. I feel that Jinx is best written as a no-nonsense, _very_ cold, almost emotionless operator, with _very_ few words. I mean, think of the character. Think of the kind of person she would have to be in order to be a special operator along the lines of Delta, hand selected to be a Joe (which is clear that's *way* above that) while _being female._ She's not just uncommon, she's rare amongst _the most_ rare people. She's anomalous. _All_ the women selected for the Joes I would imagine are like that. *_Make her a bad ass._* Kelley has her out here shopping for blinds in IKEA while her and Lady Jay are wearing matching Doc Martins. It comes down to understanding the audience, and these panels seem like she doesn't, and consequently, isn't written for anyone, other than herself. I'm not saying women can't write these comics, but this lady shouldn't be handling military stuff. It doesn't appear to me that she understands the dynamic. I'm not writing for example the Real Housewives mini series one off because *I don't know and will never know that dynamic intimately enough or at all to write anything compelling.* I'd be like "what do these b!tches do- let's see; they go to Starbucks? Okay. They drive G wagons and Porsche Cayennes that their husbands bought them. Alright. What else? ..... _botox!_ Got to make a note to the art team to really get those lips in the style of Picasso on acid. Oh, I know! _They fuhking hate each other_ and they let *everyone* know it." Armed with that by itself, it's just not gonna be a good book. But at 50 bucks a page, what do you expect? I know if I were _forced_ to write the real housewives, it would devolve into the housewives turning into something along the lines of Tetsuo during the end stages of his transformation in Akira..... _because of the botox I don't know a lot about._ :| *This is why I shouldn't write the book* you see? Same with this lady.

i just hope Scarlett isn't going to be like that in skybound comic because if it's start going the alphabet road then i'll just go back and read my old G.I. JOE comics from the 80's where cobra was evil and trying to take the world while the joes were trying to finish the mission and thwarting cobra's plan for world domination.

I've recently gotten back into watching GI Joe. So many cool characters and so many cool story ideas you can run with. This Scarlett book is disappointing on so many levels. And as a full-blown hip hop head, please don't compare today's female rapper with talents like Yo-Yo, MC Lyte, The Lady of Rage, Charlie Baltimore, and even old school Queen Latifah. Today's female rappers aren't even Lil Kim or Foxy Brown level.

I'm seeing all the videos on how horrible the new star wars game is, and how bad the main character looks. I'm in a FB room with 74k members of gamers and there are dozens of people saying they are playing and it's great. Maybe one person has said they didn't like it. It makes me wonder if any of the reviewers have ever played it.

Isn't it "Don't ask, don't tell, the comic book"? Two clearly gay characters, but you're not supposed to ask, and if you do you'll get a technically correct equivocation that seems like a denial, but is nothing of the sort. The 90s are back y'all!

There's supposed to be an extreme economy of words in comics. Failing to boil off all the excess and get the words down to a minimum really is an insult to the artist, imho. Seeing hack writers cover up artwork with word balloons of their characters babbling and about room numbers and food is almost physically painful.
@silverheart404912 күн бұрын
I haven't ever written for the medium but the appeal to me is that you get to really punch up 'show don't tell' in new ways. I don't get why these writers don't lean on that, it seems like a lot of fun especially in collaboration with a good artist. Write a novel later.

I'm not feeling that art at all. It looks like the artist was trying to draw manga from memory, but forgot half the elements. I don't want to seem like a sycophant, but what little of Ya Boi's art I've seen was much better. A major reason I backed _Comic Book_ was to see more of it.

Stories like that which are as old as a moldy Lil' Caesar's crust, doesn't deserve the marginal attention on Thompson's behalf. She needs to stay in her lane in farting inbetween her legs, and accept throwback elements don't have any substance from any reader whatsoever.

If you want a good female rapper, I would recommend Calliope Mori. In particular, her songs Ijimekko Bully and Make 'em Afraid are quite good. She has a good range of topics she covers. Of course, her music is mostly known for her many songs about people being terminally online.

Dude, This is so played out and has become so passe. It's crap like this makes me believe that women writing comics today are incapable of writing a woman within the dynamics of a heterosexual relationship. Gay relationships in storytelling have NO DRAMA, NO TENSION, NO POWER DYNAMICS. I'm sorry. Even sex between heterosexuals in storytelling is a minuscule device. Nobody cares who you're bangin'. Readers care about drama, action, escapism, and stakes. SMH.
