We've been waiting for this review to drop. This is the first truly comprehensive 1st look review I've seen. It's good to see you back. Maybe we'll see you at The Harvest this year.

I need new boots anyway. Sign me up. I've skied the Tx, Tx Pro, and Comp. The flex of each worked fine for me. The one boot I couldn't get to like was the Crispi Evo and the reason was due to the "tippy-toe" feel that you described. I'm all resort skiing these days, in the Wasatch and a priority for me would be an increase in torsional rigidity. There are times on wider skis where I can feel the boot sole flex in a twisting motion, so any improvement there would be a benefit for my application.

What is the most exciting thing about this video? Is it the review of the new TX Pro? Nope. It is seeing Dostie creating more content. Dostie, I really hope you bring back Earn Your Turns in earnest and if you need community support to keep doing it, please let us know.

Hey Dostie - id like to see some videos of you flexing the boot in binding as in the rear leg in tele. Use the same binding as you would normally and give us a ski mode and walk mode version - then do a ski mode version with the older tx pros Scotty Hammond did post a video of him flexing the boot in free rides (IIRC) and it certainly looked pretty tippy toe but he didn’t post the same binding with his tx comps to compare. It’s going to help a lot of people see what’s what and guess against their present setups as well. Please - thx.

Scarpa still calls it a 102 but it's shaped a little different with the widest part a little farther back. As you know, I tend to like what you like in a boot. So I don't know about this one yet. I'll have to demo it with my own older liners to have an idea of whether I will buy it. I wonder if you (and I) might be able to ski it with the top buckle on the tour hook. I have Popeye calves so I might be able to make that work. I really like the pretty blue women's boot but don't know if I can make this boot work for me in a 27 and somehow I doubt there will be many women's 27s in Japan.

I just received a pair of these in a 26.5. Each boot is 260 grams lighter than my pre-2024 boot in the same size. They seem to fit the same, but I have yet to thermofit them. The tech fitting and duck butt positions are such that they will put the boot center mark in the same exact spot, with the reduction in sole length being from the duck butt back (that was tested on the Meidjo and on the Outlaw X). NO WORRIES on relative location on old mount. If you mounted boot center on recommended on the old Tx Pro, it's still there. Forward lean can still be adjusted. The thing I disliked - intensely! - about the old boot was the #2 buckle from the bottom. Big improvement here. The idiot who engineered that was brought out of retirement to mess up the power strap! That is a new thing for me to hate. Overly involved compared to the old strap and harder to get the leverage to get the strap as tight. I'll probably be trading the old strap onto the new boot. Measuring inside the boot, the height on both to the top of the back is 27cm and to the top of the side is 23cm. Interior length is shorter (one and a half fingers vs 2 for boot sizing in the same 26.5 size.

So stoked waiting for the new boot to show up. But I'll be more stoked when they make a soft version. My old tx pros i modified by removing the top buckle, the instep buckle and the power strap, and i cut off some plastic on the cuff. That helped a bit, still too stiff. Softie main plates, and drilled holes in the flex plates, slic pin forward, all helps a bit. Still way too stiff, too much ramp angle, too much forward lean, not wide enough in the forefoot

The flex sounds a little like the soft bellows-stiff cuff flex of the Garmont prophet/Scott voodoo. Hopefully, the bellows are stiffer than those.
@grizzkid795

I was hoping it would ski like the previous TX pro but sounds like it is kind of stiff in the cuff area and not sure just loosening buckles would do the trick. Might have to keep the old T3's for backcountry use until they come up with a softer NTN boot. I need a soft roll onto the ball of the foot. Also best to keep bellows flex soft, as that can be controlled with most NTN bindings.

Dostie!!! Question for anyone who has demo'ed the new TXPro... My last Tele boots were 75mm T-Race. I loved them and beat them down. I was never an adopter of the NTN because of the weight and boots being too wide. I modified my T-Race to have a more upward lean (so I can lever the bellows) and ditch 1 of the upper buckle to have back my 3 buckle boots. Long story, comparitively, disregarding the binding, how would you compare the flex between the 2? FYI... I could not ski Garmont boots to save my life. Bellows were way too soft. Thank you in advance folks! Now, just waiting for them to appear at my shop of choice...
@EarnYourTurnz
@EarnYourTurnz 4 ай бұрын
Can't really say as I never spent much time in T-Race caliber boots. Too stiff for me, not the bellows, the cuff. You will probably adapt to the new TX-Pro coming from a T-Race quicker than I could coming from a T2X/TX.

Thanks Craig! I would you compare sizing from the old 75mm like T1 / T-Race vs the new TXPro? I use to fit 25 in T1. Now I ski a F1LT in 26. I know how important it is to have the bellows flex at the right spot. And no one around my neck of the woods has them yet. And I really don’t care whether blue or red ;)

Thanks Dostie! One question: What are you calling the rear of the lower shell, behind the bellows? Sounds like you are saying "scaffold." Also, a comment: Seems like a stiffer bellows would promote "tippy toe" feeling, which we normally equate to lack of flex, while a softer bellows would promote a more natural flex. Curious for your thoughts on this across other models.

I would like a boot that weighs half what these anchors weigh…more flex, and way way lighter. Then I’ll buy …I’m talking Ataomic Backland weight, with all the adjustable cuff flex AND a semi soft billow…that’s just me, surfy range of motion that you can tune yourself with a strap and buckle and seriously way less weight, I’d bet Dostie would like that too…
@EarnYourTurnz
@EarnYourTurnz 9 ай бұрын
Well, half the weight would require unobtainium so I'm not holding my breath. I just want a TX with the ROM in the new TX-Pro and a way to have a soft flexing cuff when in tele mode. More weight than a backland is simply training weight to me. Helps shed the extra weight I wear every day. ;)

Thanks for the balanced review Craig. I’m on T1’s with Axl’s on 2. 90% touring. As I’m 60+ been through the evolution from leather on pins through all the plastic boot and binding iterations. Transitions have been challenging but I’ve adjusted. Now dealing with permanent right leg weakness due to nerve damage from 2 herniated discs. I’m trying to prolong my skiing life. Keen to move to a step in binding like Meidjo. Tend to do more p-turns when the leg won’t cooperate. Feel now is the time to transition with this new boot. “Tippy toe” comment has me umming and ahring. Will I hate it?

re: hate it? Absotively. At least for awhile. I just don't know how long awhile will be. For me, it absolutely needs a modified, spring loaded walk/turn mode lever. At the least. And/or a brute to break it in for me. LOL. As a P-turn boot it rocks. T-turns will take time to figure out.

Craig, if you had to guess on a flex rating would it be 120+? Any feedback from someone that has 10+ days in the boot regarding break in? As far as further product development and changes - it took Scarpa years for them to release this boot. I wouldn't hold my breath for changes in the next few seasons. This boot and the drive to save grams seems focused on those that are earning turns and the hope that a light tele setup will draw more people to telemark rather than AT. Reality for majority: most of their skiing is in-bounds and maybe a bit of side country resort accessed. Necessitating a thinner liner because of shell volume reduction to save weight sounds like cold feet to me. Would I be able to get an intuition powerwrap in these? Probably not. Stiffer than Comp? Did the testers and people providing development input ski in pow and steeps? I'm in last gen TX Pro and ride X with spring on 1-2. Personally I need a setup that allows for fluid skiing with smooth and fast transitions for skiing steeps and trees where I'm not on the bottom. Stiff boots and Outlaws where the spring is cranked just don't allow for the kind of turns I make. Seems that a lot of tele skiers want this "power" and equate this with stiff gear rather than strong legs and solid technique. Stiff gear and cranked springs - it isn't pretty to watch and it sure as hell doesn't work well in deep pow and steeps. Go ahead and "tele" with stiff setup resulting in straight front leg and tiptoe back and tall stance on consequential 40+ degree slope or bang out turns in steep tight trees. Ugh. I'll accept a bit of extra weight for a sweet flexing boot all day long. Maybe I should buy 2 backup pairs of last gen Pros.

Re: "Reality for majority: most of their skiing is in-bounds and maybe a bit of side country resort accessed. " Do you have data to back up this observation? If true, it's only because the current offering of porky NTN boots drove the market that direction.

@jasonwooden
@jasonwooden 10 ай бұрын
@@theskilawyer I''ll see your 30 years of observation and raise it by 10. I mean, we see skiers where we ski. I ski 30% resort and 70% BC, so yes- I see more tele skiers in the BC. Percentages too for sure. I see 10% of all skiers in the BC are tele, maybe 1% on a good day at the resort. Scarpa put a lot of effort into a lighter boot with more ROM, which aims squarely at the BC use case. I'll wager that Scarpa did their research before heading down that path and dumping $1m into molds.

@EarnYourTurnz
@EarnYourTurnz 9 ай бұрын
Any reduction in weight will help with the uphill leg. Equally important is the improvement in cuff range of motion, and a reduction in the flex resistance of the cuff in touring mode. My measurements indicate a reduction of a little over 4oz/boot (mondo 26) compared to a TX. Not huge, but noticeable.
