I think the thing chasing the kid on the scooter was a magpie, and iirc they're Australian relatives of the crow who just get possessed by an undying hatred of humanity on occasion. As do most things down there.

I've heard that bluffing gives you the best shot at surviving an encounter with most big cats, whereas showing fear, and especially turning your back is the equivalent of saying "Yeah, the table is set, please maul me to death as fast as possible." As for bears, it depends on if it's a grizzly bear or a black bear. Grizzly bears get angered by basically everything a human does, so if one lunges at you, your best bet is to play dead as it's only trying to eliminate a threat, not actually eat you, whereas black bears can be scared away by bluffing. As for polar bears, well... Uhh, pray?

Also for the love of everything that is good, don't climb a tree to escape a bear. They can literally run up a trunk at the speed of 30 miles per hour.

Yeah exactly, many animals' predator response is triggered by something running from them, that's why they try to get you to run away. Big cats especially won't attack if you keep your stare on them, so there are African tribes who wear masks with eyes on the back of their heads and there's a story that a child survived a lion encounter by walking backwards all the way home where the adults can help, keeping its eyes on the lion the whole time.

12:40 The funny part is that this is exactly what you're supposed to do if you run into a mountain lion. You're supposed to keep that charade up until you're absolutely sure that you're far enough away from it that you can make a clean getaway. Those things have insanely good eyesight, so that might take a while.

Bird swooping down on the kid was a distant cousin to the Crow called a Magpie and they have what’s called “Swooping Season” where they have been known to be the death of people for constantly swooping down at them (distracting them from riding their bikes among other things). Black Bears and Mountain Lions you need to sound like you’re not scared and don’t run (yell just like the guys did in the vids), it’s practically the only way you’ll survive. If you want more animal facts I suggest watching the channel called Casual Geographic, he has great footage and spits facts about all types of animals.
