Long time ago my uncle played a joke on me and showed me this game and he knew damn what was gonna happen next after finishing level 3. The image and scream literally scared the absolute shit outta me that I started crying. He felt so bad and gave me a hug and some orange juice to calm me down. The year was 2007. I was about 9 years old and naive as can be. I was at my cousins house with my extended family, and they were all gathered around the computer and told me to play this game. There I was, thinking they were all standing around me to see how good I was navigating through the levels of the mazes. Boy was I wrong. When the event that shall remain unnamed happened, I screamed and jumped out of the chair to run to safety. When I saw everyone laughing at me, I realized the only danger I was in was the danger of humiliation. Some memories never fade.

When this game first went viral, it was a brilliant example of how to do a jump scare. It wasn't widely known at the time, unlike today's games that completely botch the concept. Here's everything this game did right: 1. There was no indication that it would happen. (it's not classified as a "horror game" anywhere apparent) 2. It was done after establishing the lie that it's a real game. 3. It was done in a part where you have to move your mouse at pixel detail, forcing your undivided attention. Nothing has come even close since.

Let's be honest, what scared us about this wasn't the image, it was the sudden loud scream EDIT: To clarify, i think that it's the loud sudden nosie that scared us so badly, i'm sure that if it was just the scary picture with no sound, it wouldn't have SCARED/FRIGHRENED us as much. It would have been creepy and unsettling sure, but not startling, which was the point i wanted to make, the actual important ocmponent of a screamer is the loud noise, and not so much the image

The year was 2004, I scared one of my friends with a similar concept created by the same guy who did the Maze game. You were supposed to identify any confusing things to a random picture, about 30 seconds later a scarier imitation of the 1890’s painting The Scream would get you. A week later, my friend got me back with this. I was traumatized from this to where I could not sleep for days. I learned a serious lesson there. 😂

When I watch this video I don’t get scared, instead I get sad. This video brings back lots of memories to when I used to play at 3am with my friends on PS4. They told me to watch this video and when I finished, I obviously screamed very loud. These were my friends for 6+ years since elementary and middle school. Little did I know, a few months later, I would transfer to a different high school and never see them again. We slowly stopped speaking often and what turned from talking everyday for multiple hours a day, turned into speaking never again. I miss them more and more everyday. :(

For anyone who doesn’t know, the face that is used for the scare is a zoomed-in screenshot of a horror movie called “The Exorcist”. The movie is about a girl named Regan who was possessed by the devil himself after playing with an old ouija board she found in her basement. Throughout the movie, Regan’s body begins to physically deteriorate due to her being too young to handle the strain that Satan has put on her, which is why the girl’s face is covered in scars, cuts, and scabs. This particular face was the expression that she made after doing a 360 degree head spin.

My older cousin made me play this at my Nan's house when I was around 6 years old. I vividly remember playing a Bugs Bunny game on my PS1 and him calling me to come see the game he was playing. Absolutely terrified me. To this day, I still associate the maze game with Bugs Bunny. Crazy how stuff like that sticks with you.
