The burgh in Bamburgh Castle is pronounced as burra ,it's Bamburra Castle ! Know it well & it's absolutely stunning set in a magnificent surroundings !

Thank you for the comments The Seeker - I suppose the pronunciation of the word "Bamburgh" is dependent on where you are from, Londoner's pronounce London "Landon" where I pronounce it "Lundun" - but I understand your point, have a great evening - best wishes Darren.

@@RealScary No, Darren. As @TheSeeker4642 said, Bamburra is the correct pronunciation of the name and has nothing to do with where you are from. You missed off an entire syllable. You have a north east accent so how come you made such a basic error? Bamburgh is a beautiful place and everyone should go if they get the chance but they would look stupid if they followed your lead and referred to the place as Bamber. Own the mistake don’t perpetuate it.

Thanks for replying Darren, I apologise for getting your accent wrong, when you're a Smoggie, must be slipping now I'm 70. I've got relatives scattered about all over Northumberland & knew a lot of them well, when younger, they used to laugh at my accent & me at theirs. I'm still in touch with some, but not many. Accents seem to be changing over the years, dialects are dying out with the advent of TV, radio & incomers. We all had strong local dialects at one time. Even my young relatives don't use the local dialect my generation did. I'm a Scottish Borderer, one of the infamous Border Reiver Clans or Steel Bonnets as they were known. I've had many paranormal experiences & even lived with a resident ghost in an old remote cottage. He was as solid as you or me when you saw him, but walked through doors, that at one time weren't there. He smoked a clay pipe, wore clogs, had twine tied round his trouser ankles, collarless shirt & his waistcoat seemed to be optional. We all saw him in his work clothes, but only our daughter saw him dressed up as if for church or a local gathering. Even a sceptical teenage brother who was visiting, hunted high & low for the man he'd just seen walk into one of the outhouses. He didn't bother us & we didn't bother him. Some places have an otherworldly aura about them & that was one of them. My mother & me were attuned to the world of spirits, somehow that made the paranormal, normal for us. My late dad used to tell great ghost stories & frighten his younger cousins half to death when he came home on leave from the R.N. during WWII they told me.He was a double whammy of superstitious Scot & superstitious sailor. So I enjoy your channel very much indeed & thank you for such great content.

I've been to Bamburgh, and it is a beautiful place - its been used more than once for a film set. About a century ago Sior Harry Lauder made a film of John Buchan's novel, 'Huntingtower' there, which sadly is now lost. It was also the place where one gentleman started a lifesaving company before the RNLI existed, and Grace Darling is buried in the churchyard. Well worth visiting.

Oh I've been up there, on a coastal walk from Alnwick to Bamburgh. Enjoyed learning the history as well as hearing the ghost stories. My favourite one was the disembodied spectral hand😬 Many thanks once again😊

My grandmother was born there, Scary Stories, it’s pronounced the same as Edinburgh, or I wouldn't have commented ! I too pronounce London as Lundun. Love your stories, you sound like you're from the Sunderland area !

Thank you for the comments The Seeker - they are appreciated, although I could fall out with you suggesting I was from Sunderland ( lol ) I am originally from Teesside - have a great day, best wishes Darren.

Hi and thanks for another interesting video, this castle is on my bucket list as is the rest of Northumberland. May I make one suggestion? The written and verbal narrations are not synchronous and when you are listening to you speak its hard not to also read the written which is distracting and it undoes your good work. Would it be possible to synchronise them? Thanks again.
@RealScary2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tango69f - and thank you for the comments, am I correct in that the Subtitles are not synchronised with the video? also you can turn the subtitles off on any video if they are not required to my understanding - however I will look in to both issues, and thank you for bringing it to my attention. have a wonderful day - Darren.

Bamburgh Castle seems to have more than it's share of paranormal events. If I ever visit the place, I'll make sure to leave before nightfall. Listening to the stories is fun, but being there when it happens might be unpleasant.

I'm curious is there a source or reference for the 'hand cutting off' witches? Thanks

Love your stories. However, if a place is haunted, it's haunted all the time not just during the night. Not matter what time you visit, you may witness paranormal activity. But I know, I know. Nighttime makes it all the more creepy. Some what you described sounds more like residual energies being replayed over and over and not an active haunting.
