Talking about clothes reminds me of our long ago church picnics. It was late July, but all the old farm men would be wearing overalls, straw hats and long sleeved shirts buttoned up tight. They would line up against the shady side of the school building and smoke pipes. To this day, the slightest whiff of pipe tobacco takes me right back. God is so kind to give us a way to go back and visit old times❤

You being you Tipper, I thought you'd like this one too. I found it written on an old wooden match box under our house in Western Australia. "When the world wearies and society does not satisfy, there is always the garden" We made a garden bench and wrote the saying on it to remind us and those who come after to appreciate the wonder of the garden 🥰🥰

Thinking it's a cultural thing. I never ever saw any men in my family wear shorts or even bare feet or shirtless until I was 14 Daddy took Granny & Ma to Hawaii. He wore shorts there. He passed in 2013 at 88 years old & I never ever saw his bare chest & only ever saw his bare feet once in my life. He always wore work pants too. No blue jeans ever. And a suit to church.

I really enjoy your videos, I'm not from Appalachia but a lot of the things you share remind me of my family when I was coming up, when someone would sneeze my Grandma would say "scat kitty cat" I said it at school when I was in about the 3rd grad and some mean ole kids made fun of me for it LOL .When my Aunt didn't want to have to do something she's say " I'd rather watch the grass grow" . When I was a kid my Papa would always say you can't run from your troubles because where ever you go, there you are. meaning you're probably the root of the trouble. So many of these I sayings are so timeless and it doesn't matter where you're from. I look forward to these every Monday. Thank you.

Tipper ! You have the most beautiful skin ! I worked in dermatology for years in my younger years! I, as a redhead, wish I paid attention to the sunscreen lectures we gave our patients! No sunblock in the 70s and 80s, and oh my …. The 90s and …. So at 51 next month, I was blessed with my first skin cancer next month to my eye. Big surgery with barely a scar. Thank the good Lord. I can now expect more of the same to pop up. I have a hat, sunblock, and a linen shirt with sleeves to walk my beagle Joey😂 I have turned into my mother with the giant sunglasses I was so embarrassed she wore when I was young😂 For a gardener, you have zero sun damage! Good genetics play a role too 😉

Hi Tipper! Watching your video, when you mentioned adding Lavender and Peppermint essential oils to your bug deterrent spray, you questioned if they even did anything or not, and I became curious myself. So, I looked it up online and found several handy websites that confirmed that, yes, Lavender repels fleas, flies, mosquitoes and ticks, and Peppermint repels ticks, spiders, roaches, moths, flies, fleas, beetles, and ants. So yes, they definitely helped improve your bug spray! 😊

Yay for rain! We sure need it here in NE Oklahoma. I'm getting cherry tomatoes, cucumbers and squash already. The blackberries are in peak production, and the basil is almost ready for first harvest. I also harvest thyme, rosemary and oregano throughout the growing season. I need to harvest some of my sage as well, as I noticed it was ready. My slicer tomatoes are not ready but they are huge. I'm hoping they ripen soon because, like Matt, I'm ready for a tomato sandwich! We're in the excessive heat here, but that's just driven me in the house for chores so I'm canning up some chili and shepherd's pie filling. Have a great day.

Every time a Donna would send you a message, I just pretended it was me you were talking to! (My name is Donna, too).

I love Gene Watson. Farewell Party still gives me chills. If we said I can’t to my elders they would always say “I can’t never could do nothing!” If my granny thought we were saying something to get out of trouble or somebody was talking about us she would say “ that’s their/your tail I sit on mine!” I have noticed your cuff bracelet can you tell me where I might find one? I have look everywhere and I’ve got burnt a few times.

Love that! My friends got me the bracelet so I’m not sure where it came from.

My grandmother would say "scat!" when we sneezed. If we sneezed multiple times in a row she would say "Scat cat! Your tail's on fire!"

My husband works as a hydro journeyman and he’s never worn shorts except OCCASIONALLY on vacation but I could count on 1 hand the times. I’ve never seen any of our fathers and grandfathers wear them either! Some of our menfolk also wear long sleeves yea-round.

Tipper, I use Neem Oil spray on everything in our garden and it works. You may want to try it. I buy it at Lowe's. Good Luck from Alabama

My granny used to count buzzards flying, saying, "One for sorrow, two for joy, three for a letter, four for a boy, five for silver, six for gold, seven for a secret that's never been told." Have you heard that?

Another “scat” girl here. Grew up in Oklahoma. No “tail in the gravy,” but there’s no sneeze in our house that doesn’t get a “Scat!”

I don't remember where I heard this saying but, if I really wasn't interested in doing something or going somewhere I would always say, "No, no. I'd rather watch paint dry."

I haven't heard that saying for years! My dad used to say " Skat Cat get your tail outa the gravy"! Usually when we were grabbing something from the table before everyone got sat down at the table. He's the only one I remember saying it. We are from Western NC.

Maybe not all a cultural thing, (the men wearing pants) but a generational thing as well...I don't remember any menfolk on either side of my family wearing shorts at all...my grandmother used to say "scat" anytime we sneazed as children and I still say it to this day...Western Ky here.😊

Hey Tipper, great words of wisdom sayings. I don't believe I ever heard the scat cat when someone sneezed. I'm glad to hear you have another book signing. It would be nice to see some video footage from that. Continued prayers for your family. ❤

My family is mostly from Oklahoma and Kansas and my Mom had lots of sayings. I don’t remember anyone saying anything when someone sneezed. Most everyone I know says “bless you”, but I still don’t say anything.
