I heard this band for the very first time when the algorithm got it right again. My Sad Captains knocked me right out. The playlist I've had on repeat is a collection of the best "new" music I've heard in a long time. I'm about to enter cancer treatment for the second time in my life. Last time, 2012, I was introduced to Gotye, and found all his music, and listened to him a lot during my treatment and recovery. This time it's Elbow, and their music moves me that much more than the other. It stands to reason, I am more myself than I've ever been, more grounded, joyful, and full of love, and the desire for connection. Elbow brings all that together. Thank you for sharing.

Please play "The Everthere" I lost my Mum this week - she drifted away gently in a nursing home in Liverpool. I am trapped in the states and can't go back (Pete, Guy - it's Ian, the Scouser who lives in Reno) - it breaks my heart, but then again, so many are suffering horrible losses and pain right now, my personal disaster is just one of way too many. "The Everthere" sums up my Mum and my Dad, but it perfectly describes how I feel about my wife of 20 years and her unwavering support to help me right now (as she always has). There is a framed print of the lyrics I made for her hanging on our wall - she can't listen to the song because she is in floods of tears after the first verse. Every note of that song is precious to me. Scattered Black and Whites broke my heart all over again - but in a good way. It always brings me to tears when I see you play it live. Thank you for ALL the music over ALL the years. What you are doing on #elbowrooms is helping more people in more ways than you could ever imagine........

With all the hyperbole at my disposal I don't think I could sum up how much I love song. In the naughties me and my band mates and girlfriend (now wife) used to shout "Scattered Black and Whites" towards the end of every Elbow set we went to. I thought they might play it at the Somerset House gig in 06 or 07 but no joy. We carried on shouting anyway. At Glasto in 2007 in the King and Queens tent we carried on being utter reprobates and shouting colours at the boys. Would you believe it, they played it in the encore. At the time we believed fully that it was down to a bunch or half drunk lads (and one las) shouting. In hindsight it was really just a coincidence but the confluence felt amazing. Whenever the inevitable happens (hopefully in many years to come) I think Elbow playing Scattered Black and Whites in a little tent at Glasto will be one of the moments that flashes before my eyes.

This is absolutely wonderful. I first saw Elbow play in the Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth. (May 2001 I think … wow where did the time go?). I didn’t know their stuff, I remember watching Guy stick plastic spoons in a sequencer for some songs - their performance left me floored. It was astonishing. I walked out a different person. Watching them grow has made me proud in a weird way. IMHO this is one of their best songs amongst a plethora of staggeringly good music. They never fail to summon nostalgia and a deep sense of belonging in their songs.

Miss him - lost in hospital to the virus 🦠 later that May 2020 getting it under a pacemaker fit after collapsing on me in my care!! and miss him soo much . He enjoyed listening I feel as I played the live recordings of Elbow most days in lockdown.
