Hey! Nice videos and great work with the guitar sound. It would be awesome to hear just your guitar so you can really hear the tone! And how do you dial your eq? I got a YJM100 amp head which is basically the same thing as yours. Cheers :)

Hi! First of all, thank you for your kind words and the question, I really appreciate it! You are right, I should make a video just to demo the sound, without any background music. I'll do that in the future for sure! :) and for the sound: guitar -> amp-> shure57 -> (mediocre) mixing console (no comp or eq at this point yet)-> pc. Recently "Master volume" mod has been added to the amp(you can see the knob at the bottom input 2), so I'm still experimenting with the eq settings on the amp. Anyways I'd make 2 takes, 1st panned 100% to the left, 1nd panned 100% to the right, then at the end i'd start my simple mixing process, where I'd add eq and comp. I hope that answered your question, if you have any additional questions do not hesitate, I'd love to answer all of them! :)

Johnny B Rollin Awesome, I'm looking forward to it! And thank you for answering. Do you use the same eq on the amp when you record the second guitar or do you eq the amp different? And do you use the same guitar for both takes? And how are you usually eq your amp? It's kind of hard to see on the video haha. Sorry for all the questions, I'm a nerd 😎

haha don't worry, we're on the same boat! And since i get like 20 views per a video, there's not alot of chance that someone will leave a comment haha, so when people do it, im more than happy to respond ;) So for my covers it's always the same guitar, same eq settings, everything is the same, even when i mix i'd just group those 2 tracks, spread them (like i said one left, one right) then i'd add plugins (eq,comp) to the group, so both are treated the same. What makes a bigger sound when you record guitar twice instead of just copying 1 take on 2 tracks is the fact that you never play a song EXACTLY the same (timing wise), and for some reason it works. But don't be afraid to experiment with different guitars/amps/mics for different takes, you can get fantastic results, just make sure guitars are in phase if you change or use multiple mics! EQ on my amp: What I like when it comes to the guitar sound is energy at low freq, so it feels powerful, especially when palm muting, then i want to get a lot of "khkhkhk" sound at high freq if you know what i mean. So turn up the bass knob, presence, some treble (not as much as bass and presence), and get rid of some mids. Now for gain... use it as little as you can get away with it!! With an amp like that you don't want to have so much gain that guitar is gonna play by itself haha, you want to play it, harder you hit it, more distortion you get, that's how it should work :). For solos you may add some gain. Also keep in mind please, everything I told you is just what works for me, some producers or other musicians might disagree, but thats ok! :D

Johnny B Rollin yeah I usually use two guitars when recording. I got a Gibson Les Paul JR with a P90 pickup that I use for a more twangy tone, then I use my Gibson lea Paul studio with humbuckers to fatten up the sound. I agree with you about not use so much gain, too much gain kind of ruins the sound and the tone is almost gone. Thanks again for your answer and keep up the good work! 🤘🏻👌🏻😎
