They understand the meaning of John 17:3 . Especially when they read it. As soon as they read it or hear someone else reading they are going to run away from the verse. The verse speaks of one God, this goes against their programming from the church.

"and" doesn't mean Separate or Exclude Himself from the Only true God. And that is true that Jesus said, The ONLY true God is the Father "and" Jesus Christ whom you have sent (John 17:3). That is why, do not worship any other God other than called the Father, In The Name of Jesus. Because Jesus said, whatever you ask the Father anything IN MY NAME, The Father will give you (read John 14:13-14, John 15 :16 & Ephesians 5 :20). So no other God worthy to worship other than called the Father, In The Name of Jesus. So if there is any God other than called the Father, do not worship Him. Because that is a false God.
