Scenario Based Training - Key issues emerging from our work with NHS and Police Trainers.

Gerard and Prof. Chris sit down for the first time since 2019 when we last recorded a conversation about bringing evidence informed approaches to training in PMVA Conflict management and Physical Interventions / Officer Safety training. We discuss the three loops that organisations and trainers tend to get trapped within, and then some of the common challenges faced by trainers who are implementing the new approach in their practice. We discuss the importance of underlying trainer knowledge, the challenge of reorganising a curriculum and how to assess learners when you are doing scenario-driven training versus traditional block-practice and assessment. We have a chat about how to differentiate for the needs of individual learners within the scenario-based model too, ensuring that no-one gets left behind.
