Which would make me ten at the time and in my last year at junior school. I remember Cat Stevens Old School Yard song too!

Joanne Whalley; I fancied this actress as a boy in the 70s. This must have been about 1980 from the way they’re dressed.

I remember Scene. More aimed at sixth form/uni students age group than primary and secondary. This episode captures the times well, sincere but a little clumsy in dealing with the race issue; it hadn't been addressed much on tv at this stage... and I liked the Matumbi tune at the end.

Yes yes that's all very well but Remember The Days of the old school yard?

Preceded by Cat Stevens' "Remember the Days of the Old School Yard". Not long after that song he converted to Islam & changed his name. The episode itself features the late Gilly Coman, best known for playing Aveline Boswell in the Carla Lane comedy 'Bread'. Her character was later recast with Melanie Hill playing that role until it's end.

Love the reggae closing song in this episode. I think this was well scripted and acted with the mothers playing a good role model to their daughters. The racist aspect shows how far the UK has come attitude wise as it would be a complete non issue (hopefully) along with being illigitimate in 2019.

The end reggae song was by Matumbi who were active in the UK in the 70s and early 80s

The UK is as RACIST as EVER! The only comparison between then and now (2023) is that, the racist scum are more subtle or covert for fear of being rightly punished by Law.

The shocking lack of reaction to the disgusting racism by the victim and others in this show, contributed to the acceptance and 'normalisation' of racism against Black people in the UK.
