The 69th fought with buck and ball ammo , they were the stormtrooper, s of the northern army which meant they went in first and off course got slaughtered many times, it’s a badge of honour to the 69th , many of those brave young men were straight of the boat from Ireland and some only spoke Irish, long live meagher, s brigade.🇮🇪🇺🇸

Prior to WWI the army was made up of local units - hence the 4th Alabama and the 69th NY. The Rainbow division got its name because the it covered the US like a rainbow - God Bless America !

The 42d Division was a national guard division madeup of national guard units from several different states.

There were some Irish soldiers in the 4th Alabama during Mary Height's. They had to fire upon the Irish of the 69th, their own brethren whom with they emigrated from the Irish nation
