Ritchie (Lou Diamond Phillips) performs "La Bamba" on stage.
#LaBamba #RitchieValens #HDClips #MovieScenes
Now on Disc and Digital: www.sonypictur...
The life of rock & roll legend Richie Valens bursts across the screen in this celebrated, music-filled movie with star-making performances by Lou Diamond Phillips as Richie and Esai Morales as his half-brother, Bob. LA BAMBA depicts the 17-year-old Mexican-American's rocket rise to fame, from field laborer to rock star with a string of hit singles and a date with destiny. Fueled by Valens' hit songs performed by the Grammy®-winning Los Lobos as well as classic '50s tunes, LA BAMBA recreates the thrilling early days of rock and pays homage to the enduring legacy of a remarkable talent whose music crossed all borders.

"La Bamba" was not a new song even at Valens' time. It was a traditional song, slow and romantic. Valens' genius idea was an uptempo version which fit well with the rock'n'roll just becoming popular.

That seems to be the uncertainty behind how successful it would be. Valens apparently didn’t speak the language, and there was concern how it would be received. It’s a shame the soundtrack had Los Lobos version, instead of Valens.

LA BAMBA 🇲🇽 La Bamba is a very representative song of "Son Jarocho" which is the folk dance of the Mexican state of Veracruz. La Bamba is the identity of those of us who have the honor of being Veracruzanos. Greetings from Minatitlan, Veracruz, Mexico 🇲🇽

I am Texas born, but live in a border town where the Mexican culture is prevalent. I remember when this movie came out. A mexican-American rocker from the 50's, played by a Phillipino born actor, singing a song that is originally from a native area of the state of Veracruz, Mexico. Thank you for this scene, it transported me to my teen yrs.

I'm born in Colorado and grew up with great influence from Mexico. All the culture, the people, the festivities, and of course the music are really fundamental to me. Ritchie Valens and his cover of La Bamba is one of those good examples, though it used to be a traditional Mexican song way back before Valens and Lou Diamond Philips. I remember watching the movie and it was so good, honestly. I know I really want to visit Mexico one of these days, because I never been there before and of how much I was raised with its influence. Thank you, Lou Diamond Philips, for your amazing cover.

Viva Ritchie Valens!!!!

Actually The Isleys and the Beatles did a remake of Twist and Shout and The Isleys made Twist and Shout huge hit. Not The Beatles.

Eddie Cochran, the musician shown behind Jackie Wilson backstage, died only two years later in a car crash in England. We lost Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Eddie Cochran in a very short time.

To be honest, thinking of it, I have somewhat different feelings on what Ritchie Valens could’ve been if he hadn’t died. Back in those days, Music was never something to be pursued as a full-time profession. Even actors used to move away from the scene and become businessmen as they got older. If Ritchie Valens had lived, he would’ve probably graduated, married, had a few kids, and maybe fondly recollected his life on the road to them over dinner. It’s highly unlikely that Ritchie Valens or Buddy Holly would’ve ever considered doing this for life as their priorities and attitudes were different. I find it sad that they never got to start a family and watch their kids do something similar but that’s what it is. The Beatles and the Stones did more in bringing music to the mainstream as a full-time thing.
