(0:58) This particular scene was more than enough to see the similarities. It won me over!

Someone who was working on “Belle” also had worked at Disney for “Beauty and the Beast.” That is why these particular scenes are similar. There is an interview on the DVD or Blu-Ray where the director talks in greater depth about his collaboration with this person, whose name I have forgotten.

Could it be Glenn Keane? He animated the beast, and there are a lot of references to the Beast in Belle.

Belle's character design was inspired by Disney Princesses

One of the things I love so much about this movie is that even though it's not supposed to explicitly be a beauty and the beast film, it casually fixes all of the biggest complaints people have about the beauty and the beast. -People complain about Belle being forced to stay in the original, in this one Ryu tries to tell Suzu to leave and never tries to keep her -In beauty and the beast, the prince is a child when he was cursed, leaving us to wonder how legit of a punishment it ever was and making it odd how he is a normal adult after all those years, in this film Ryu actually is a child who needs to be saved -in the original it makes the audience worry about how the beast can change because of how violent and badly tempered he can be, but in this one it's extremely clear that Ryu only fights for defense and competition, and whenever he is angry it's obviously because he's emotionally tormented, and when you find out why it's an emotional gut punch.

Idk if you agree with those complains, but let me say, Belle was never forced to stay in the castle by the beast. She choosed to be there from the start, and after being saved, she had the chance to leave. She didn't. She choosed to stay and give the castle and the beast a second shot. Adam even wanted her to leave and only decided to "keep her" after she says "i'm taking my father's place"; gee, he didn't saved her to convince her to stay, he just wanted to apologize and just "happened" to save her. It wasn't a kidnapp in any man.

also, talking 'bout the third complaint, even tho Adam had a big tempered and was somewhat violent, you can see his want to change, even before falling in love with Belle, he has the power to control himself, even tho he can go out of hand (west wing scene was the biggest example and the reason why people say he's violent).

The messages that dying to save a stranger while leaving behind/traumatizing your own family is "selfless", and that a teen girl should go alone to confront her online friend's abusive dad irl are worse than anything in Beauty and the Beast lol

🎉 Love both movies. They definitely did this on purpose. It's like the little mermaid the original was actually Japanese :) Both are completely different films but have similarities in I love that with Beauty and The Beast and Belle! Both absolutely gorgeous movies!! 🥰✨️

The original Little Mermaid was from Hans Christian Andersen and the anime version came before the Disney version. It wasn’t the original Little Mermaid though.

I’m a sucker for Beauty and the Beast stories and I loved the nods to Disney’s version in this movie. You could even argue that the Beast saving Belle from the Justices mirrors the Beast saving her from the wolves in the Disney version

thanks for this. I noticed the reference shots (specially the facepalm and the reversed camera swoop in the ballroom) while watching the movie and needed a video to show someone.

I’m watching Belle on Max now. Got to her arriving at the castle and I said Nawwww?!? 😂😂😂 I questioned it when he was zooming around the sphere, but now I’m sure. Lol

Belle IS a love letter to Beauty and the Beast. Regrettably its story telling fell a bit short, its music had to do all the lifting…
