Scenic Drive in South Africa (1.5 Hours) - Oudtshoorn to Mossel Bay with Relaxing Music

Have you ever thought about taking a road trip through South Africa? This is some of the epic landscapes and beautiful scenery you’ll see when you drive between the Little Karoo and the Garden Route… Where we call home.
We filmed this video on one of our adventures to give you a virtual tour of what we see when we drive this scenic route. With relaxing music, because that’s what we listen to sometimes when we drive. :)
We start our journey outside Oudtshoorn, at the famous Cango Caves, and drive through the town and over the mountain passes until we reach Hartenbos, just outside Mossel Bay. This was filmed during the Covid19 travel and lockdown restrictions in South Africa, which is why the roads are so peaceful. It was a relaxing drive!

Itinerary to follow while you watch:
We start driving through the scenic Cango Valley, home of the famous Cango Caves. Be sure to check out this must-see tourist attraction when you’re here in person.
From there we pass through the small village of Schoemanshoek which has a beautiful old church building that you can see from the road. You will notice that there are many ostrich farms along the way as well as some places to do an ethical Ostrich Tour when you travel here. You can also check out the local wine farms for some wine tasting and fresh lunches.
The next town you see is Oudtshoorn, also known as the Ostrich Capital of the World. It’s here where you will see beautiful old sandstone buildings filled with history, and great local restaurants, each offering a unique style of cuisine. You can easily spend a night or two here exploring the surrounding areas during your travels.
Some of the things to do here:
-- Ostrich tours and shopping for ostrich leather and feather products
-- Wine tasting
-- Meerkat tours
-- Safari game drives
-- Hot air balloon rides
-- Hiking
We then make our way through the semi arid desert known as the Klein Karoo. Look out for ostriches and antelope along the way. When you’re here, be sure to stop for a photo along the road to capture the vastness of this beautiful landscape.
Over the Robinson Mountain Pass we go. You will notice the scenery changing from dry bushes and golden brown sandy hills to lush green rolling hills as we enter the coastal side of this road trip journey. We will pass through Ruiterbos which is an old woodcutters village established for forestry and farming. When you travel here, be sure to stop at the local farm store with the zebra stripes painted on the roof as they have really good “roosterkoek’ (bread which is baked on fire - It goes well with fresh farm butter and apricot jam- YUM!).
Finally we venture through a small village called Brandwag and then to the beginning of Hartenbos, on the edge of Mossel Bay. Mossel Bay offers beautiful relaxing sandy beaches, lots of restaurants to try out some good seafood and many activities such as sandboarding, surfing, hiking, skydiving and more…

Oudtshoorn has the best scenery. I remember driving through there going to mossel bay in 2019. This road reminds me of my friends that I last saw in 2019 tour I miss them hopefully one day we will go back to mossel bay but first we need to reconnect😔😪

Beautiful. Many years ago I would have driven on this road with my family travelling from Oudtshoorn to Mossel Bay on our way to Cape Town. We took the scenic garden route. I was only 10 years old but enjoyed the journey. Loved Mossel Bay and Cango Caves. This video makes me miss SA more.
