@Sonja K We did the Red bus tour later in the afternoon. The tour is worthwhile to get an overview of Reykjavik and to get off directly at the sights.

I took the red bus back to back on my last day in Reykjavik when I was in Iceland last month! There was so much to see that was new and to recognize from previous days driving around.

I enjoyed my trip to Iceland and the locals I met were really nice but the buildings are often ugly, I didn't know that beforehand and was shocked - the architects have messed up badly.

I don't know what buildings you saw. I didn't go away with this feeling. I loved the variety of old and new buildings. I especially like the beautiful classic stately white Scandinavian buildings and houses including the older more expensive neighbourhoods of Reykjavik.

Aabaer and Breidholt are paerticuarly ugly areas, I found, I don't know if you went that far out. There's an article by one Hallgrimur Helgason, an Icelander, on the 'Reykjavik Grapevine' about this subject where he says the same as me. Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

We took the entire route of the Red Bus from Reykjavik, which of course had several stops in the city.

Kind of boring, really.

This is not a problem. However, many other people love such scenic drives through cities.

Not boring for me, indeed useful for next visitors

this is only what you see from the main roads in the city. the best parts are just beyond what you can see from the windows of a car.

I was just there last month and on my final day in Reykjavik and Iceland, I took this bus twice - back to back. I loved the contrast between traditional and new architecture, the coloured roofs, the stately classic 100 year old plus white Scandinavian style homes in an more upscale neighbourhood. I loved driving by areas we had driven around during our previous week there and I got a better idea of the neighbourhoods and locations. I love how the country including Reykjavik has such a clean and green in summer. But then I'm fascinated with Iceland.

@@channelgogrvk thanks for saying this. I took this bus twice in a row on my last day in Reykjavik and Iceland. I loved recognizing places we had driven by before and new areas. It helped me figure out where neighbourhoods were. I especially loved driving by the old more upscale neighbourhood with the classic white Scandinavian stately houses and the graveyard full of trees. But then I'm fascinated with everything Icelandic. I was very impressed with everything we saw.
