My mother and I flew this route in 1971. It was reversed, SAN to LAX. My uncle knew a short cut to the airport which made us late. The ground crew had to push the stairs back to the plane, it was an American 727. When we landed at LAX, my mom found our gate and shortly after, I found out the reason for us flying home from Los Angeles. As a surprise for me, my dad arranged for our return flight to be on a new American 747. I was so excited and didn’t think something that big could get into the air. There was even a cocktail lounge in the rear of coach with a full bar and bar tender. Club chairs and mushroom shaped chrome lamps finished everything off. Things were so much nicer then.

Another NASNI alum here - my stint was from 67 to 70 with VS-21. Many good memories from those days on Coronado Island (tho I guess it's really a peninsula).

Back in the 60s I had an aunt that lived in San Diego. To visit we would take a United Boeing 720 from SFO to LAX then a piston popper DC-6 from LAX to SAN. That leg took about 45 minutes in the slower prop plane.

During my fishing trips, I would stay at the end of the runway, on MCRD at the marina. Planes quit flying after 10PM, and the fireworks show from SeaWorld could be enjoyed. Even had a "Marine early rise call" on many occasions.

Saw an interesting jet today at F70, N50MG. Also notice yoy can fly from CLD to MMH via a Dornier 328. Thinking of trying that route round trip just to fly on the 328. Keep up the good videos.

I flew from LAX to SAN on a Delta L-1011. Great flight. Don't remember the date but do remember the great service on board. There also used to be a United flight from SFO to OAK, just across the Bay. Never took it, but a fellow Co-worker did to get a free one-way pass United was giving out after a long strike.

@@LAXTravels this will make you cry. Back of the 70s when there were several airlines that had this segment to fly I flew American, United, Delta, National Airlines. And on one American Airlines flights I paid for first class ticket one way and it was about $8.60 if I recall. Yeah, that’s right, $8.60!! And I was 15 and I bought the ticket right at the counter. Very minimum security. Did not need ID. I knew my way around LAX and how to handle myself professionally as a traveler. As I had traveled overseas in domestically already, and I knew how to handle myself around an airport. First class on American Airlines is pretty nice nice drink that was class. Rumi cabin and a nice first class seat. You can’t expect that much for such a short flight. I did this a lot within California to San Francisco. I wanted to try new aircraft that I’ve never flown before. And different airlines. Got to fly a BAC-111 to San Francisco on Pacific Express. That was an interesting Aircraft. I did the same thing when I went back east in the summer of 1973. Flew different airlines and aircraft. My most exhilarating experience was flying an IL-62 from Montreal to JFK to the Pan Am Worldport. The 70s were great for flying. Oh, and systemwide across the United States and Canada, they had some thing called Youth Fares. For younger people. That was a great promotion to introducing people to travel by plane.

Actually, SkyWest is a Delta Connection flight. Probably most of the people on the flight arrived at LAX from Atlanta, with San Diego as their final destination.
