Scenic Road from Greenock to Largs Old Largs Road

The Old Largs Road is also called the Scenic Road to Largs. It runs from Greenock to Largs and it goes past Loch Thom. It's also a section of the Shiel Road Route for the Coig. It's a beautiful route to drive, but it is single track for the majority of the way. So, be careful.

Walked and biked and drove it many times. I went to school opposite the Mill on Peat rd Notre Dame High. Played golf at the Whinhill. Sometimes exit at either IBM or Inverkip and stop in Inverkip Hotel for fish in a basket and a pint

As a boy, along with a group of friends we walked the old Largs road from Pennyfern to Largs. It would be about 1957. I've never forgotten the experience - a true adventure for a group of lads. There were no cars on that road at the time. I recall that we asked an old lady in that white house near Largs for a drink of water that she kindly gave us. What I can't remember is how we got back to Greenock. Happy days. Thanks for the memory.

A Brilliant route, I take a trip up around Loch Thom pretty often. Its only a 15 min drive from town, yet you feel as if you're in the middle of nowhere. At 12:54 that Range Rover has been lying burnt out for over 2 years...

Yeah, I payed a visit to Loch Thom as well. It is a beautiful area and the landscape is dramatic. It is a shame that that Range Rover has been allowed to lie out like that.

@@AScottishOdyssey Yea saw your video of Loch Thom and the cut. I went right down the research wormhole and put out a mini documentary of the area. lol. Towards largs you also have Castlehill, the remains of Brisbane house and the ruins of the observatory. Lots of history in a small area.

There is so much to explore and explore in the North Ayrshire area. I did have plans to spend more time in the North Ayrshire area, but that has obviously been put on hold.

Yeah, I've driven over the Fairlie Moor road, when the main road to Largs has been shut. It is stunning. I will have to look at Hunterston House.
