Ferndale does have some nice parks. I would encourage all parents to research the quality of Ferndale schools prior to moving.

Where do the middle class (average income) people live? The median home prices in this area are absolutely insane. Both you AND your spouse/roommate basically need to be either a doctor or a lawyer to live here. I recently applied for a job in Ferndale, but if I get it, I think I will need to buy a camper and just live in that full time. Even the apartment rental prices in this area are way out of my price range.

I completely understand. I just released a KZbin video about the Washington down payment assistance program, which can help. And when you look at the statistics, to afford a median priced home monthly mortgage, at the median wage, one would have to work 108 hours per week just to cover that monthly mortgage. So yes, most homebuyers need double income.

@@livinginbellinghamwashington so what do we middle class single people do to afford a home in that area of Washington state? Move further West? I'd like to stay within a 45 minute commute to Bellingham. I have about 9 more months in preparation before I relocate? May have to rent and apply for that assistance program after establishing myself there. Great video BTW.

How are the schools in Ferndale?

Most of the schools in the Whatcom County area are similar from an academic standpoint. Of course people do have their personal preferences on areas that they like the best. I always encourage people to use online resources like school.org or school.com to check more specific ratings from third-party sources.
