After seeing this scene, I understand why Pacino deserved his Oscar. This was the most important scene in the film. Not only was Awar perfect in her role and the tango well done, but just as important was the reaction of the extras in the background. Their reaction helps build the believability of the scene. After watching this, I went out and rented the film to watch it in its entirety and marvel at Pacino's performance. It may not be a great film, but Pacino's performance and this scene make it worth watching.

There is an old, old adage "Never give a sword to a man who doesn't know how to dance". Dancing, Boxing, Martial Arts, it's all the same. The Argentines teach Tango Mano a Mano. @@Segundo_Grande Yes, I agree and the scene is not strange: the dark, even the deepest one, like this, in a blind person has always a "measure" and Donna, who "penetrated" that darkness, gave it a measure and a "shape", made by the sensation of warmth of her skin on the hands of Slade, her breath, her particular scent and the sound of her voice...just another way to feel beauty.

Something extraordinary is happening here, and I don't mean the dance. Not THAT dance, anyway: Frank is constantly trying to get Charlie to talk to Donna, but the thing that he CAN'T SEE is that there's something there without his help. The way she looks down when he tells Charlie she likes him ( 1:48), and the way her eyes linger on Charlie when she's laughing, before thanking Frank ( 2:46 ) let's the viewers continue the story in our minds, and we know she's older than Charlie, and we know she's about to get married, but taking advantage of the physical space and the emotional closeness be tween Charlie and Donna, they're giving us a chance to to wonder. What if Michael never showed up? What if Donna took Charlie's hand and asked him to give her another dance? What if she'd taught him what Frank just taught her? What if Charlie had asked her to spend the night with him? What if he's kissed her...? All of these storylines just streamed through my mind just watching it and I can and will take each scenario and see where it takes me. And it's very rare. And if you ask me, as a writer, an editor, a book worm and a film fanatic (clinically so) giving someone a chance to be open is much more powerful than delivering a "powerful" speech where there's only one hero and only one message.
@lucyaguiar95982 жыл бұрын
I honestly thought that I was the only one who thought all this stuff when I watched this scene! I completely agree with everything you said... I see so much potential in the chemistry that Donna and Charlie had in just a few minutes of movie, it's almost like they had this silent conversation with just looking at each other! I loved all of this scene in general, but I don't think that the only thing that makes it unique is the dance.
