Scenthusiasm: HOW DOES AN IDEA BECOME A PERFUME?

Turning an idea into a perfume. I was asked to explain how an idea becomes a scent, and to be totally fair, I'm not sure that we managed to describe the process, because it needs quite a bit of background knowledge of materials before you can "know". But here goes!

Thank you Sarah. I have learned so much from you. Me and my 11 year old daughter launched a perfume business about a year ago. I am a blue collar hotel maintenance guy who's daughter wanted to learn how to make perfume when she was 8. So like any dad would, I learned how to do it as best I could and than began teaching her. Turns out we are pretty good at it. Perfuming isn't just mixing chemicals. The math, creative writing, photography...everything that ensues when you start a small business... It is hard, but so much fun and so many life lessons.

i'm on the road to creating a scent for myself.. it will be a ancient cathedral scent, balsam needles and the scent of censors and old marble coated with anointing oils, dank spaces, musty pews and confessionals ,having not seen daylight in centuries.. rich in copal, amber resin, beeswax, old dried roses and lavender.. it is an interesting and long road ahead but I am determined to get it just right..

Good question and I have never considered it before! You can check in the IFRA standards which are safe, but Romandolide is fine, and Ambrettolide.

Like she has said in the past, there's really no reason to go down to the .000 decimals unless you're only making a very small batch in which then only it can make a difference.

The Japanese emotion, smelling perfume machine sounds ace I imagined some lovely Japanese people rolling it in on a trolley under a shimmery blanket to whip it off to reveal a space age machine with a big nose on it with lots of colourful buttons and knobs and a meter that goes from happy to sad and all the emotions in between
