SCEWO is a stairclimbing wheelchair equipped with a Toradex Apalis iMX6 SoM - born from a master’s degree thesis from Zurich University (ETH), which demonstrates what can be done using Toradex Computer on Modules (CoMs)/System on Modules(SoMs) in safety-critical applications. Other engaging demos included TAQ, the balancing robot, featuring Toradex’s Colibri iMX7 SoM with NXP i.MX 7 processor, a rover using the Apalis TK1 SoM with the NVIDIA TK1 to recognize street signs, and many more at Toradex’s booth at Embedded World 2017. Toradex also mentioned its launch of two new SoMs based on NXP i.MX 8QuadMax and NXP i.MX 6ULL: Apalis iMX8 and Colibri iMX6ULL respectively. The Colibri iMX6ULL offers a low-cost and power efficient platform, along with integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, targeting the emerging IoT and connected market; and the Apalis iMX8 offers high-performance and powerful graphics for Computer Vision applications.

Is that at ability expo? My concern is if it malfunctions while it is on the stair, has a solution been found for that yet? I am also curious about if it is waterproof, as in can it withstand if rain gets on it? It seems nice if someone needs to travel to an underdeveloped country or maybe go hiking where there might be stair like obstacles, I don't know if this chair is suitable for mild to moderate hiking, so I'm just guessing. Though generally the best solution is to encourage establishments to make their platforms accessible, especially when it is being built. Accessibility can help everyone. So if this invention becomes the norm I am kind of concerned about it somewhat demotivating people from making places accessible. Also having to drive well backwards through doorways could prove to be quite difficult and dangerous for many because they could accidently wreck the door way, their chair, or possibly run into someone such as a little loose kid or pet while they are trying to get through those narrow doors and operate their chairs. Although the invention can come in handy, it is greater to make places accessible.

@@sharonh4944 I'm in Europe so it is law public to have full accessibility options for commercial buildings/social clubs & public transport. I was specifically talking about private owners/renters, who for example, have to build single step ramps for their own home/landlords property at massive building regulatory expense (retro fitting) to themselves not tax payers, the societal costs are obviously wasted time/workarounds & ongoing assistance/support etc..! #BLM
@hiworld6925
@hiworld6925 3 жыл бұрын
@@RoryOConnor It is better to encourage everyone to design for accessibility. With such chair there's always the concern that it can malfunction half way, not everyone can afford it or qualifies for it. And designing for accessibility can help everyone from people who can walk though not so well, those who use walkers, people carrying a load, pregnant mothers, those with a baby stroller, people in wheelchairs be it manual or not. And even the owners of those establishments be they private or not, in the blink of an eye one's life or their loved one's can turn upside down, so it is best to encourage that it be made accessible.
