The people who talk down on HD simply haven’t taken the chance to appreciate the objectively great motorcycle they are. Don’t believe me? GO RIDE ONE!
@winstonpoplin2 ай бұрын
The problem with harley is that are using the objectively worst engine type they can. A parallel twin or a transverse-vtwin would be great. The transverse-vtwin on my Honda CX500 is amazing. An air cooled longitudinal vtwin like harley uses has some of the worst cooling of any motorcycle engine that exists. Another big gripe is that until recently they havent produced anything with an engine other than this horrid vtwin I am describing. Honda or Yamaha also make vtwin air cooled bikes. But they also make OTHER motorcycles with other engines. Inline fours, single cylinders, parallel twins, three cylinders, vtwin, air cooled, water cooled, there are so many fun ways to make a bike. But all harley does is make the same cruiser bike in slight variations. Honestly its just sad that an iconic American company can't do better. Harley could have been the Honda of America, but instead all they did was make vtwin cruisers.
@red_j_ruff_wood63842 ай бұрын
@@winstonpoplinthe Bike here is a Milwaukee 8 which is Air and Oil cooled. They start at 107CI and go up to 131CI. I personally have a 114CI that makes 121TQ at the wheel. So far they’ve been great. Stout and very reliable. Since 2017 they’ve only had one major issue which was resolved in 2019 completely (oil sump issue covered by warranty) and have been steady engines ever since. Somehow HD has had the “reliability nightmare” reputation ever since the AMC days of the 1980s. The generation of engines before this are the Twin Cam and the EVO. Also Great Engines. The EVO Engines Are so Good People use them to power small aircraft. HDs new engines are short stroke DOC liquid cooled engines that love to Rev, they’re called the Revolution Max. Harley Davidsons are definitely good motorcycles that appeal to many. They also hold their value better than pretty much any import bike. Try one out, seriously. It might show you how easy they are to appreciate.
@mcgoo7212 ай бұрын
@@winstonpoplin it is a shame the nightster is a miss and they don't do more to innovate. However the arguments against the engine fall away once you put away the spreadsheets and ride them 🤷. The modern engines are reliable, balanced, and make good usable power. I went from hating HD, to saying they're good bikes but not for me, to wanting to purchase a road king once they update it. If they do soon at least. Otherwise it's a great bike now at any rate.
@winstonpoplin2 ай бұрын
@mcgoo721 Just because an engine works doesnt mean it cant be improved. I think thats the main takeaway with HD. There are so many types of bikes HD has refused to make. All they want is a air cooled vtwin cruiser. If you like them more power to you. But ill choose a brand with a larger variety of bikes. With honda or really any other brand you can get a air cooled vtwin, or an inline four, a parellel twin, or even a 50cc dirtbike for your kids. Harley could do so much more.
@red_j_ruff_wood63842 ай бұрын
@@winstonpoplinI understand what you mean. But of course HD has the V-Twin market down. And an American V-twin is what most HD enthusiasts are looking for. The Street Rod 500/750 had a parallel twin. And didn’t sell very well when the brand is admired for the one thing that they do right: Their lumpy V-Twin. Of course they could make some new engines but they wouldn’t sell. Why? They’d be more expensive than all the other alternatives and also it would be getting away from what they’re known for doing best. Not every bike has to make crazy power to be enjoyable. Some people like slow smooth comfortable cruising.
@dumbcat2 жыл бұрын
i think big v-twins return me to my youth when my little 50cc dirt bike felt 'big' and i had respect for it. i didn't try to ride fast. i just tried to have fun cruising around freely wherever i wanted to go, enjoying the wind in my face and the sun
