Not my favourite road. This exact type of road asks you to go fast to enjoy it. Otherwise the turns feel a bit boring. Don't misunderatand guys. Very fun playgrounds to go to anyway but well not my favourite. My opinion is that there are roads out there where you can "push hard" without so much risks, because the turns are more in number and slower in speed, and allow great leaning degrees at moderate speed. Those are my favourite.
@Luca_S_84 жыл бұрын
I don't like roads like this either. They are surely fantastic... if only they weren't PUBLIC with risk of animals, slippery materials on road, people stopping behind blind corners... doing turns at 100+ kph is AMAZING (ex GSX-R 600 owner) but waaaay too risky. Better go on the slower turns in mountain roads aka 50 kph, plenty of fun climbing up, plenty of view and more safety!

I Tolstoy get what you are saying. Not a bike rider, but have a fast road car that is set up well (V8 M3). I find the same that these roads you carry too much speed to try and get anything from them. Speed gets boring equalling needing more speed to thrill and that’s where limits are breached and accidents happen. You don’t flow with a road like this or feel a chassis beneath you. It’s better to back off and take more of a touring mode I find.

although the GoPro is very deceiving. Most corners on this road are actually just about right for my taste. But yes especially the last section is too fast and wide actually

@FlameHazeist3 жыл бұрын
@Halpa Halpa Yes. It first has to overcome the weight the rider puts on it before it can retract, which can be very significant at high speeds with an aggressive body position, and when riding near the limit of grip it doesn't take much to destabilize the bike mid-corner.

I understand perfectly, I have an AT too, but manual, and I always had sport bikes before this. AT surprised me, with road tires is fast, and once you understand the suspensions push hard is a pleasure. I found this bike to behave very sincerely, and only when you are crossing the limits it starts to feel sketchy, the problem is that is so pleasant to ride that this limit is easy to find, because of the driver i mean. So don't judge you to severly, everyone has an AT knows what you mean. I think that AT with dct is even worse, because it becomes more fluid so it's harder to feel the speed. Very nice video, saves me from the impossibility to ride my bike, glad you are good. Thank you.

I used to ride way too hard as well, not keeping enough margin for error (oil/sand on the road, pothole, cars cutting you off, a deer jumping out in front, etc). Had a few close calls mostly with animals (turttle, dog, deers (probably like 10-15 times), skunk, moose, bear,..). Grinding pegs on highway junctions (even with offroad tires)...And before something bad happened, I finally realized I could enjoy ridding without putting my life on the line all the time. I love riding too much to end up in a wheelchair or dead. I still enjoy a sporty ride, but gone are the days where I thought I was invincible (and thankfully it didn't take an accident, just a few years to get older hehe). @schaaf you weren't the only problem, the dunlop tires are crap, i have the same feeling as you on my Twin with those tires, one moment you have grip and suddenly the other moment it's completely gone. If you push it to hard at the exact wrong moment you Will crash, i had several high speed runs around the Nürburgring forrest and especially under braking into the corner it felt very weird, it was sliding ever so slightly under a bit of stress (heavy braking or throttle during side load) i then went and put on a set of Bridgestone a41's and the bike rode 10x better, like it was on rails... Those tires showed me what the africa Twin can really do in the twisties! Anyway, glad you survived, it was a long recovery but when i heard you would be riding again when you revalidated i was very happy for you. Keep up the good work, love the vids👌🤙👍

Sorry to rain on the parade, but I'm not impressed. That speed on an open road is nonsense, if you look for adrenaline take this big bike offroad, it'll be less dangerous for you and the others. Or travel far away, this calm down because you have to arrive in one piece. And the peg noise is due to a wrong ontrack body position, one can see that from the footage. Good you made it after your crash, and may be now you can behave properly on the OPEN road.

If one want's to run at those kinds of speeds and that kind cornering, well, that's up to them. It was/is a great video. Especially because I like those kinds of roads, and even more especially, because traffic was pretty light on all of those you were on which makes for more pleasurable riding, speed or no speed. Glad you made it through your ordeal and, are around to talk about it. I've only had my '18 AT/AS/DCT now for about 7 months and, I love that bike. I've been a Goldwing pilot for decades and traded my last one, an '08 GL 1800 Level II in on the A/T. The A/T is so much more nimble and agile. Ciao.

My god. You leaned that bike over insanely far. I own an AT-AS and i don't even approach these lean angles on that bike. Mostly because you can't feel the front end enough to know where traction is. Balls of steel

Holy cow man - it's been a while since I first saw this, and now I've got an AT I know just how hard you were pushing! That skinny tyre doesn't inspire much confidence riding hard - I'll very occasionally touch a boot down, but you're on the pegs/centre stand, and can I hear the front tyre complaining under heavy braking? Glad you made it through, and backed off a bit - as you found out, pushing that hard will eventually end in tears. I so wish we had roads like that here - and so little traffic! 🇬🇧

Thanks for sharing Valentin, lot of input. Now I got an idea how the DCT works, and I´m really impressed. It blocks your unnecessary downshifting and forces you to use the torque with lower rpm, and because of that you got huge more flow and drive midcorner than in your other videos. Maybe you haven´t noticed that hidden change caused from the DCT. I don´t know why and where your accident happened, but every single one corner entry in this video scared me. Drive was good, speed was good (okay, way to fast) , brakepoint was very late but acceptable. Abruptly losing the brakes without degression means you take all your front tire load away just in the moment as you begin to steer. That´s extreeeemely risky. Trail braking would be the perfect completement for such hard riding style. This is the best example for the discussion about braking on the 1000PS channel.
@0815Luther4 жыл бұрын
The DCT was set to S1 mode, which is the "softest" sport mode on the bike. Setting it to S3 will show some of the "unecessary" downshifts again ;-)

I just picked up a new Africa Twin DCT and like it so far. After almost 20 years of VFRs, and loving the bike, I bought an NC700X a few years ago and fell in love with the upright riding position. And while the NC is no sport bike (nor is the VFR), it is an enjoyable bike to hustle along on the street at 8/10ths. I'll be interested to compare the AT, as it actually has a suspension and much better brakes than its cheaper brother. Glad you survived!

I always thought your old riding style was a bit too fearless. Now I know why. You were just lucky and brave. I was always too cautious as a learner and I am still not as aggressive on the road as you are, never scraping pegs or touching anything more than a toe because my boot is too far off the peg! I need track days to improve my confidence and skill. Btw, amazing how good the standard exhaust on the AT sounds!

Man, thanks for uploading. Im glad you survived and are here to tell us the story. I know that if you could you'd still ride the same because that's how you liked it and loved it. I just want to say that ridind like that or the "slow and responsible way" you do do now was and still is a gift! Sometimes i feel so frustrated that im so slow or i'm afraid to lean that i simply can enjoy the ride... I just wish is could ride like 35% of what you do to be happy hahaha You'll always be a example for me man! Thank you for all the videos you make, and i sure miss your CB! Best regards and speed safe!

It’s taken big balls to share this video and to explain how others could learn from your mistakes, thank you. It looks like you’re riding ‘quick’ but it never looks like you are actually trying to ride as fast as possible. It’s like you’re flowing with the road rather than trying to defeat the road. I guess when you don’t feel like you’re really trying it’s all the more surprising if things go wrong. 😔 Stay safe my friend.

Goosbumps, not the good ones though. Thx Schaaf, I really appreciate that you are shareing this and even more I like the fact that you are now able to deal with your riding style that lead to the accident. Hope this helps you in your head and mind to get over the worst experience you propably had. And for the public, well, my fingers always reach for the brak leaver nearly every turn you take way before you actually slow down. I see those wet patches on the road and hear the footpegs scraping the floor .. well it just makes me shake. So thx for shareing your view today on your past style !
