You're getting the same issues as with a Floyd Rose, but without any of the benefits. To snip off the string end is not that hard, to lock it down, not that hard. But you're missing the locking all over with this setup, but also you get the floating that an OFR has. It's sacrificing a bit of alleged convenience for a lot of extra issues.

While the Schaller VT is a great bridge, I'm not sure if you know about The Gotoh 1996T, it is both cheaper than this Schaller bridge and a SUPERIOR bridge to a Floyd Rose Original

By saying „the best” you meant „the worst”? You lose all the benefits of floating trem without getting any good aspects of one way trem xD no offence, but thats just bad idea. Just get gotoh 1996t for 150$ and you are set

Why would you ever need to do this?

Good question! For me personally it was to make an old guitar that plays amazing a bit more flexible in terms of tuning. I will probably go even further and block the trem so that I have pretty much a fixed bridge going on. It’s of course easier to just buy a new guitar, but since this one has a special place in my heart and I want it to take it out on tour where I have to switch tunings in between songs this was a quick solution that didn’t require any crazy woodworking :) Thanks for tuning in!

Why not just block the floyd rose then? Because of the double locking system, it stays in tune even better than the regular fixed bridges. I'm not being nitpicky, I just really want to know 😅

@@keeprocking3620Don’t worry, it’s all good, I enjoy talking about this stuff so ask away :) It pretty much came down to two things when I decided to try this out: Firstly, since this is going to be my backup guitar for session work I wanted it to be more flexible in terms of string changes, so I wouldn’t have to clip of the ball ends. I sometimes have to switch between gauges from one night to the other and instead of getting rid of the barely used strings I will either reuse them when I have to switch back or keep them as spares for myself or my guitar students (and stringing up a Floyd guitar with the ball ends on the tuning pegs is something I just can’t do, it feels so wrong to me). Since I’m not endorsed by a string company I’m trying to save a bit of money, basically. Secondly I just wanted to try something new and see if I could breathe new life and inspiration in a guitar I hadn’t used in so long. And as it turned out the trem feels fantastic, it is just such a joy to play with it again. So for me the experiment was worth it :)
