Thanks for your comprehensive review and great solo. I play blues rock, and sustain and bendability are super important for me compared to brightness, and I like the Pasadena and Sunset Strip pickups. This Exotic is also available as a string-through-body hardtail, so I wanted to ask your opinion before buying concerning the sustain available and bendability with the FR 1500 bridge on this guitar? Funny you referred to the Charvel several times, I've looked at a few too. Take care.

Honestly, if you don't plan on doing any tremolo or vibrato work, skip the trem and go string through. An upgraded tremolo like a Gotoh 1996 will offer a bit more sustain as it has a larger brass block but still won't out-sustain a solid tail or string-through design. That said, I honestly don't know how much of a difference it realistically makes as I've never had the same guitar side by side with and without a trem. None of my trem guitars have a problem with nice long sustain and none are noticeably less sustain-y than my les paul. You could just get the super shredder model that comes with the fernandez sustainer pickups or install them into the exotic model.

@@FastRedPonyCarThanks for your feedback. Although it would be ideal to do a string-through vs FR test, I haven't found one to date, and I have to order music gear online so can't try myself. But your observation "...none of my trem guitars...are noticeably less sustain-y than my les paul..." is the next best notion to make a decision with to go with a FR bridge (my first one)., It helps playing loud to get the sound pressure from the speaker cab vibrating the strings. Unfortunately, I can only let it rip infrequently.

Maybe. I think once you remove the floyd from the picture, you get a whole lot of options not just from Schecter but other companies too. The main thing to consider with the Exotic Schecter is the weight. It's a heavy guitar. Think full grown Les Paul. I think if I were going hardtail and I wanted to stick with Schecter, I'd get either a John Browne Tao6 or Reaper 6 Elite.

I'm really digging the vibes of this guitar. How do you find the weight of it? I hear it can tend to be quite heavy for a strat

Yep. It’s a heavy instrument due to the species of woods it’s made from. In my video comparing it to my Charvel, I talk about the weight differences and my way to help deal with that weight (a GREAT padded strap)
