I had severe wrist issues in the past. For me, it turned out to be plaque building up on my tendons irritating everything and causing pain (I never went numb or lost strength, it just hurt). After much physical therapy and seeing various specialists I was turned onto a treatment that, basically, you lube up your wrists and use a dull metal tool to rub up and down the wrists, which seems to knock the plaque loose. (the brand name was hawk grips, perhaps you could discuss with your doctors). After just a few days I had remarkable improvement and these days I'm (mostly) fine. By that point I'd been forced to quit playing bass (didn't help the real job involves typing all day) so if I happened to eat a certain brand of pickle and my wrists got better I would have kept doing that). Maybe it'll help! good luck!

I know the frustration; couldn't use my fretting hand for an entire summer due to strain. Scary, muscles in my left arm were twitching even when I wasn't playing and music school was just around the corner. I focused on RH technique with muted strings and just let the left arm heal. By the time school started I was almost 100% Hang in there and be patient!
