Teacher at son's school made a computer control foam cutter. It was quite large and cut just about any shape but it was slow. It cut on three axis, cheers Graham.

Thanks for the information, mate. Many years ago, I worked at a company that manufactured polystyrene insulation. They cut it using mig welding wire and a 220v arc welder for the power supply. They started making a 3x3x4 metre piece, and cut it down to the sizes that a customer might require. They utilized recycled foam, so it could have mostly white with pink, blue or perhaps other colors in the final product, which was usually cut to fit between framing studs on a construction site house or some other structures.

I was tempted to build something similar a while back, but I cut foam so rarely I just ended up taking the nichrome and holding it between 2 pliers hooked to a 50C 2.2AH lifepo4 cell. Just needed a few somewhat straight cuts so was good enough.

This is a great tool for making foam insert organizers for toolboxes.

Yes, in fact that is why I built it. Recently I bought a new tool chest, and I would like to make several drawer inserts. I had planned on using those inexpensive anti fatigue foam mats you can find in the hardware store. However, I've found the foam mats are quite slow to cut due to the type of foam they are made of. So I'll have to find another type of foam.

@@Schematix and then you inspired me. Because I bought Stanley 7 drawer box with all the fancy gedore blue, wera, Knipex, Facom, DeWALT, Milwaukee, Dremel, Makita, etc. All fancy tools. I spend 4k... Man, It's an investment! And yet you going darn... How to make this look professional? Well I liked EVA foam and your video made me smile. That all the years I saved for these tools, bought them and then they would be looking badly flying around freely...oh no! You and your amazing video got my back. It's easy to follow it. It's easy to make it. Love it man!

Suggestion: Make a much larger hole for nichrome wire, and add an appropriate grommet.

Looks better than store bought; however, I would recommend buying those crimp on ferrule connectors for the stranded wire that went into the pwm controller.

Great Idea well implemented Why did you need to isolate the PS ground from the PWM ground?
@goz3rr3 жыл бұрын
The PWM controller most likely works by switching the ground connection, connecting the chassis ground and power supply ground together would completely bypass the PWM controller
