FYI, Six Moon Designs Skytrekker is a 1P that’s 8 feet long inside and two doors. It uses two poles though. Cheaper=heavier($250). Not as tall, it would be nice to kneel without hunching over. I’m glad they brought this model back.
@GreatAmericanHikes4 жыл бұрын
I think you pitched it too low because the trekking pole wasn’t high enough.The outer wall shouldn’t be that low to the ground unless you’re in storm mode. You can also tell by the bathtub walls being low as well.
@jacobfreed50604 жыл бұрын
Robin Hikes I agree. Also interesting to note he said the duplex should be pitched with the pole at 42-44 but it’s actually 48. So I wonder if he’s short changing both tents when he’s pitching them.

I'm glad to see someone that does both hammock and tent camping like I do. I have the Duplex and Plexamid Beta V. Nice thing about two entries is that you can vestibule your stuff under one side and vent the other. I use one standard groundhog stake for the main line, carbon fiber or mini hogs for the corners, and Titanium Shepherd Hooks for the panels. Good vid. Congrats on the purchase!

Fantastic review! A great tent, look forward to seeing future videos with it. Confession.....when you said "more room for activities", I had a step brothers flashback! 😂😂

This tent is heavier than my 1.1 oz silnylon tarp tent and net tent that was made with 1.9 oz Silnylon bucket. My setup was 1 pound 4 oz, and it’s two separate items. I can just use the tarp or net tent. It cost maybe 50-60 bucks to make because I bought seconds Fabric for the silnylon. I was watching this video to making something similar with dyneema but after you showing how big this tent is rolled up I’ll stick with the silnylon fabric since it can be stuffed into a sack that’s half the size. Thanks for the video.

Enjoy your new tent! I see others have commented about the pole height. Zpacks recommends a pole length of 58" with the tent hem at about 6" off the ground all the way around. I think the reason is for better airflow and less condensation.

Not sure about the alta myself... only 5'6" and I've loved my duplex for a few years now. Love my palace. That said strong like for the stakes tossed about in the beginning. Efficiency. I like it..

You should have put down your sleeping pad and got inside your UGQ quilt with stuffed foot box. In the Duplex the foot box touches the tent wall. That is the reason I would switch. You didn't measure the length or compare with Duplex. Love your channel, Hope you like the switch.

I have the same one. I think you had your trekking pole to low and not tilted in front enough. The back of this should be higher off the ground. If it was it would have a better bathtub floor. Just my observation from my experience with it. Keep up the great content boys!

Pretty happy with my Copper Spur HLV2, but looking to lighten up this year. Leary about single wall, but will probably just say WTH and give it a go with this bad boy. Sounds like you pretty much can't go too wrong. And at 6'3" this is a good match.

I’m 6’3.5” and love my Altaplex. My problem is it is just right. I’d like just a little more room on the side. To accomplish that I’d like to see a Solplex XL with a 48” x 96” bathtub floor and a 60” pole in entry and 48” on the back. That would be my perfect tent. But like I said he Altaplex is just right, and finding tent sites is a lot easier with its current width and length.
@mobilewintercamp75154 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info. Are you worried about wind blowing rain through the door? It’s a bit flimsy . I know Dyneema does well compared to silnylon with condensation but Zpacks doesn’t put apex vents on anything. I like the upper vent so body heat can rise and escape, drawing cool air through the bottom on hot nights when the air is still. Apex vent wood seal the deal for me .
@BacktotheOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
The interior length on their website is identical to the duplex - 7.5 feet. I assume you are just referring to the interior height. A major issue for tall people is condensation at the foot box, which looks like a big concern with this tent given the lack of steep walls. For $585 they should have also made the walls steeper somehow, or made it longer.

I am looking into different kinds of single pole tents. I fear the pole would annoy me in the long run and I would like to have a loop on the outside to suspend the fly from a branch or similar. Some tents have it. That might make it more bareable, using the pole only if the campside calls for it.

Looks god, but please show it with a sleeping pad and quilt/sleeping bag for reference ;). There is a DCF single person tent with dual vestibules and 2 entrances: Tarptent Notch Li. I have no experience with that, but I have the Tarptent Stratospire Li all to myself. I'm 5'11" and have all the room I will ever need. I can also take my son or daughter.

@lebowski51924 жыл бұрын
Wondering if shorty external end poles would help pull it up off your head and feet. Zpacks sells a pole "cap" for this purpose. But thanks to Mark Howard on the CT Facebook page, a cheap alternative is using lightweight arrows - run the line thru the notch. I have the SoLong 6 - heavier but lot of room. I'm going to try these arrow poles.

@@barondavis5692 yeah I agree. I bought it after watching Darwin's video and got convinced to buy it but honestly I kind of wish I gotten the duplex or even the triplex instead, I could have slept corner to corner and probably fit better, and I would have had more room for my stuff. and when you consider the cost of this thing compared to the duplex or the triplex I don't understand the cost. There's quite a bit less material used to make it.
@barondavis56924 жыл бұрын
Walk-Tall Have you tried the duplex? It’s not as high, making the walls less steep, cutting down on the length. I emailed joe at zpacks asking about a XL alta/duplex; he said he’d consider it for 2021. I encourage all tall and other folks to do the same.

Altaplex needs to be extended to the Duplex. Seriously. The Altaplex height and size as a Duplex would be a NO BRAINER for Zpacks. That being said, the pitch you have on this Altaplex is... terrible. I mean it's standing, but the walls are flat against the ground. You lost 6-10" of height by not having the bathtub fully extended. If you slept in that, you'd be SOAKED by morning from the condensation that has no way to escape. All your ventilation is around the bathtub, yet in your setup only the door would really be venting. Perhaps the short pole? Looks like you need a pole-jack. 56-60" poles bro. 52" is why your bathtub looks like a wet piece of uncooked bacon laying on the ground. My Altaplex weighs 15.1 oz. Not sure why yours is .1 oz heavier. I wouldn't say 'they lied'... all that constructive criticism aside, the Altaplex is an amazing tent. Zpacks hit a serious home run with it. I'd just like to see the Altaplex height and size as a Duplex.
@Truth-Seeker753 жыл бұрын
Absolutely not for tall people. Once on a 3” pad, anyone over 6’2” will have their head and footbox touch the walls.
