Great work Murph! Great camera shooting, great, in depth descriptions, and some perspective to round it all out. I appreciate that you took the time to give the rifle it's due. Well done!

Thanks! back when I first started buying guns I got hit with the Swiss rifle bug real hard. It was made even worse by the fact I was young and single and I had all the time in the world to learn more than anyone should about the Schmidt Rubin family of rifles.

From what I can see, for its age that rifle is incredibly smooth operating. The Swiss know precision engineering.

The grain of that stock is stunning! Almost a tiger's stripes running through it, it's really striking. Thanks very much for sharing.

Nice review! I love shooting and reloading for my K31. Good to know that the 1889 isn't just a "wall hanger" that they are often advertised as. I look forward to your future videos on the swiss rifles and ammo!

My 1889 has a neat little sheet metal bit that prevents the magazine cut off from being used. It just clicks over the mag release and prevents it from being pushed up further. I look forward to the ammunition portion of the video. My loads work but I am still having some issues chambering a few.
@RabbitusMaximus
@RabbitusMaximus 5 жыл бұрын
Targetpopper most did. You can pop off the sheet metal mag block - they were added later by the swiss- and it will return function back to 1889 original. I put mine in a bag in my desk drawer. Like using the mag cut off :)

IMR 3031 with 31 grains works quite well too. I've been using the Sierra Match King 175 grain bullets. There is new Prvi Partizan 7.5X55 Swiss brass is back in many shops now in 2023.

I enjoyed watching this, I always appreciate a good video on older firearms like the Schmidt Rubin 1889. I own one myself but not as a shooter I don't have it on ticket.

Thank you for all your work. I had found your videos and was also suggested them on gunboards. I will be using your formula starting tomorrow night. I saw an early 1889 with a 4/5 bore and a 4/5 stock on edelweiss for $360 and I had a free shipping coupon. came with sling and muzzle cap. I couldn't pass it up. been looking at them for years. maybe decades. finally giving it a try! Thanks again!

Excellent video. It’s not pointed out but you can’t use K31 specific dies for the 1889. Which is good because the $30 Lee dies for 7.5x55mm (1911 or K11 specs) works fine.

Thanks for a great video I recently bought one of these rifles in fantastic condition and will reload for it with the data you supplied...just I need to use a 175 grain fmj as I can't get the Hornady interlock 180 grain round nose. Awesome video that showed me all i wanted to see 😁😁

Small point - your rear band is on backwards - the screw side goes on the RIGHT (looking along the stock from firing position). Other than that, please continue :)

I have a K11 so would you recommend down loading handloads for 1911 action when using GP11 specs. I don't shoot the hell out of my K11 because it was said a steady diet of GP11 wears the action faster on those rifles too. I'm guessing this goes to all production 7.5x55 Swiss as well.
@murphysmuskets
@murphysmuskets 8 жыл бұрын
Actually that is the big myth of the 1911 action! 1911 actions are rated to 55,000 CUP and GP11 operates at 45,000CUP. When the 1911's first started being imported in the 70's many of them were rebarreled in .308.
