Wowsa...I have watched your review about 10 times before ordering the 48 FULL pan set from Jackson. Quite the indulgence, to say the list. It is probably the last paint set I will every buy, and I am so excited! Thanks to your affiliate link...I saved $$!

Omg! What a great video. I must say that I rarely/never comment. But this video was so informative! I’ve watched dozens of schmincke unboxing videos and this is by far the best because you talk about the characteristics of the colors and relay your experience using them. So helpful. Now I just have to decide if I want the wooden box set, or the metal tin set
@ColoringKaria5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Both are good. There is also a wooden box set with 80 colors included and room for 100. I put a link in the description.

I loved the D. S. Lunar Black. It's beautiful.
@ColoringKaria5 жыл бұрын
It’s one of my all time fav colors. It’s such a useful black! I literally add it to all my sets. Pretty much every set regardless or brand or theme has sennelier deep ultramarine, DS Burnt Umber and lunar black. Sennelier deep ultramarine isn’t the strongest ever but other brands’ is just too hard or weak. The Daniel Smith burnt umber and burnt sienna are just perfect. I find almost every other BU and BS to be weak or weird. That’s just me. Sorry I’m long winded. 😂🤣

LOL it’s not! They are SOOO much cheaper in the UK. Even w import and shipping this set costs a little more than the set of 24 does in America. But this isn’t special enough not to use. There is a set of *140* half pan set in a wood box!

I have the schminke 48 whole pan box set. I paint professionally. Half pans are too small. I recommend full pans if you're a serious painter. Above that even I recommend full pan cups and buy tube colors n fill them yourself. I've been doing that's nearly 30 years. Happy painting

Hello, I am new at watercoloring and wonder if you would know if there is a difference between the 48 schmincke horadam aquarell and the 48 schmincke horadam watercolor set? I’m nervous to order the 48 count set as I’ve seen them in different places named 2 different names as I mentioned in the aforementioned. Thank you for any help
@ColoringKaria4 жыл бұрын
Hello, the Schmincke horadam line is the artist line. Aquarelle is the French word for watercolor so you’ll see that a lot. Additionally I have links in my description. If you use my Jackson’s are referral link you’ll save I think 5-10% off your first Jackson’s art order. I hope that helps!

What are the colors that the 36 half pan set doesn’t have? I’m deciding between the 36 and 48 sets, and Tbo I really don’t need the metallic colors, so I feel I’d waste my money on the metallic colors for this 48 set.
@ColoringKaria4 жыл бұрын
Hey! A few things. The exact colors in ever set can change. If they run low or out of something they will just substitute rather than halt production. With the 48 color set you are supposed actually get only 7 new colors. Because you get two whites (though my set only came with one white YAY!) ox gall, metalic silver and metalic gold. So new colors are only numbering 7. Having said that the wood box set is AMAZING!! So if you want to get the metal tin of 48 I don’t think it’s worth it. But if you want to get the wood box of 48 that I think it’s totally worth it. Especially since there are slots for 50 paints not 48.

Schmincke has been labeling their pans for a long time..however..the student grade paints. Don’t think are labeled? Love this set! Very nice..thanks for the video!
@ColoringKaria5 жыл бұрын
This is the horadam artist grade. That’s the only kind I have ever purchased from them and going back three years ago when I got my first one it’s never been properly labeled. 👎🏾 these things though can vary by region. Also like Caran D Ache if they make a change it can take years for the changes to appear on all markets. Some people are still getting Museum Aquarelle pencils that don’t have any labeling.

Schminke (pronounced "Shmeen-kuh") sells another travel palette with porcelain. They also do seem to sell empty wooden boxes, but not for watercolors.

Yes! I have seen that on KZbin. They do sell wooden boxes for pastels but not as of this writing for watercolors.

Schmincke actually has a PBr7 Burnt Sienna, only it's not called Burnt Sienna! Lol. It's called Maroon Brown and it's absolutely lovely.
@joaquimcosta7865 ай бұрын
It’s jaune brilliant , French for brilliant yellows… jaune is pronounced similarly to the name Joan 😊
@lockeyarts5 жыл бұрын
If your burnt sienna is a PBr7, I'll be replacing it with a transparent PR101. :DI see they changed how they mark the pans. Most of my new(ish) pans still have stickers or nothing on them. If you want to change the ultramarine to a more traditional version, Schmincke also has a nice and deep french ultramarine (493) which also granulates. I also agree with you on their yellow ochre. I do not like that version at all. It behaves like it contains white in mixes and is far too opaque. I usually pick raw sienna (660) or transparent ochre (657) instead. I'm not much of a sepia brown fan myself. I think it is meant to help make warm shadows as the opposite of a cool shadow like paynes grey. To me it just looks too muddy. At most I will use it at full strength for detailing like eyebrows and eyelashes or twigs and branches. It's still better than ivory black, which is the first thing I remove from every set I own. Since you mentioned it in your video, the Schmincke website states that they removed five colors because of new regulations. All of them save one happen to contain PW4 zinc white. That's why you got perylene violet and perylene green instead. And helio cerulean, or what everyone else calls phthalo blue. They also write: "All colours are still available in the full assortment!"
@ColoringKaria5 жыл бұрын
Ah! Thank you so much! One thing I will add is that they have two actual phthalo blues. The helio cerulean, which I have seen before is supposed to be a replacement for the cerulean. The problem of course is that cerulean is very granulating and phthalo Blue isn’t. As a result it always comes out looking less like cerulean and more like a weak phthalo. While some people are able to use this new nontoxic cerulean hue, I can’t because I love the crazy granulation. Oh I love my sennelier ultramarine so much I have too much of. However I did after this buy full dot card of all the schminkce color range. Personally I don’t mind lower transparency, but you aright that that ocher is like it’s been mixed with white. I have a trick and I found that it definitely showed signs of excessive opacity. If you look at the waste water for high quality paints it should be dark but transparent. But if you use cheaper paints or white the water becomes opaque. This also happens if a paint has fillers or undeclared whites. And sure enough the yellow ochre and the Naples yellow make the water very opaque. I checked and the Naples and yellow ochers from sennelier, Daniel Smith, mgraham don’t result in opaque water. But this does. 😬 Anyway I can’t wait to get started on the swatch cards. I have filmed the swatching of all the Daniel Smith colors but it’s still not ready to go live. Lastly I generally mix ultramarine and burnt umber or sienna (PBr7 LOL). If I want a cool gray I just add more blue. And if I want a warmer gray I’ll just add more brown or even a pinch of warm red, not too much or else it starts to turn purple. If you aren’t a fan of blacks I still say check out lunar black from Daniel Smith. It granulates SOOO much. It’s a totally different thing.
@lockeyarts5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip. I'll give that black a try.

I don’t think my Schmincke set is as pigmented as my Daniel Smith watercolors. Some love them, but I was disappointed in them! I won’t be replacing empty pans with Schmincke.
@ColoringKaria5 жыл бұрын
Pigmentation is awesome but it certainly isn’t everything. Daniel Smith’s are my second favorite brand. They are perfect if you want a lot of color and plan on only one or two layers. But they don’t layer well. After 3 layers you’ll get lifting. But sennelier are my favorite they are NOT as pigmented as DS or most other brands but they are magical to layer with. Two layers looks much more pigmented than one and unlike many paints it will take as many layers as you want without lifting. Schmincke is very much in between. It has more first layer pigmentation than sennelier, takes more layers than Daniel Smith but not as many as sennelier. Still I haven’t had them long enough to say if that’s a good thing or if it’s “jack of all trades master of none” like the winsor newton paints.
@onemig005 жыл бұрын
@@ColoringKaria wow! Thank you! I love the layering of Sennelier too but been wanting to try Daniel Smith. Now that Schmincke maybe the in-between, I'm more inclined to get it instead
@ColoringKaria5 жыл бұрын
onemig00 dont hate on the Daniel Smith. Some colors like burnt umber and burnt sienna work really well with sennelier colors. I think if it’s a single pigment color and you plan to blend it with the sennelier colors I think it’s great to add it your palette. Things get more confusing for multi pigment and primatek colors. Some play well with sennelier. Others do not. :( green appetite genuine I know from personal experience works well if you want to add blue or yellow to it but if you add other colors to it it doesn’t work as well.
@onemig004 жыл бұрын
@@ColoringKaria I'm not hating on DS it's just expensive :( Schmincke comes in half pans sets at a more affordable price here with more colors (DS has the new six color sets in half pans)
@ColoringKaria4 жыл бұрын
onemig00 oh yeah! That really depends where you are. Here the schminkce are about twice the price as the Daniel Smith. Daniel Smith still aren’t super cheap but I think they are much more expensive outside the USA. Daniel Smith are really meant to bought in tubes though and dried yourself. That’s why the half pans cost so much more even here. Almost every color dries really well. The blue ultramarines are the only ones I really don’t like. I end up just using sennelier ultramarine anyway.
