I appreciate being able to call in and talk with Drew on the question. Even if we don’t see eye to eye, I’ll always respect his determination and contribution to the game. Thanks for having me briefly, gentlemen.

John Byrne Thank you, sir! I appreciate it. At the end of the day, I see both sides. But for me, this is a movie trivia show through and through. Some questions will always be layered more than others, and we can’t just not ask them in the end. There’s a lot to breakdown for sure, and I love having a conversation about it.
@johnbyrne81284 жыл бұрын
@@pj_campbell yep at the end of the day most questions can fall in several categories, so despite it being movie release dates based it can also be a valid coen brothers questions
@pj_campbell4 жыл бұрын
kermit the pog I understand it completely. I just don’t agree with it. It’s still a Coen question. Year of release has never stopped things in the past for coming up, and I while I so admit I can see why Bride of Spies being there tripped them up, I just think knowledge period always plays in the game in the end.
@HarryTMason4 жыл бұрын
@@pj_campbell Listening in, I think the issue is more that what may already be on the harder end for a two pointer, only one piece of 4/5 pieces of information is used to distinguish two movies, whereas all the other information is used to reinforce the answer they believe is correct. If there are a case of two movies with a similar description or where multiple clues fit two movies (particularly two movies in the multiple choice as a sanity check), the information which can be used to separate the movies is made clearer (or more a hint that there are two movies they would need to distinguish between). It's not just that it's a movie release dates question, it's that you waste 5-10 seconds figuring that out in the best case. Obviously this is a nice theory, and given the quantity of questions you put out make it hard. So I'll say that this is my view as someone without skin in the game, and I appreciate all the work you do.

Honestly I love the Coen brothers question. It shows who actually studied properly. Ghai can claim that he studied the category thoroughly but if he did, he would have recognised the trip up.

The infamous Coen round 2 question was indeed flawed. I think the whole situation sucks for Andrew Ghai, losing a teammate along with a title shot and not having your manager around. Props to him for keeping a positive attitude, that shows the kind of resilience that'll carry him far.
@scamrasc4 жыл бұрын
9:33 - LOL BEN!!! That honestly sucks for Ghai that it was sprung on him like that. You could counter and compare it to when he sprung his retirement, but I think it's a core invaluable difference that he sat on it until AFTER the match so that he didn't affect his team mate's mindset. It sucks that Ghai was never given that kind of consideration.

Agree with Andrew and Bandit. Innergeekdom categories need to have a single slice on the wheel, NOT individual category slices for Singles matches.

"Strongest always takes the 3 pointer" is a bad strategy unless there's a huge difference in quality between the two players. The best strategy is waiting for the 2 point category and giving it to whoever is stronger in that category. You should never risk 2 points now for the chance at 3 points later. Take the points in front of you.

I agree with Drew, and Critically Acclaimed actually had a similar (and I would say harder) question against Late to the Party, which ultimately costed them the whole match. It was “What 2013 film directed by David O’Russell stars Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence.” Witney quickly answered with Silver Lining’s Playbook, but the actual answer was American Hustle. In this case, the question was actually written to deliberately mislead them, as Cooper and Lawrence are supporting actors in American Hustle, but leads in Silver Lining’s Playbook which came out 1 year before in 2012. I get having a movie release dates question in those types of categories, but in Drew’s case and in Critically Acclaimed’s case, they were just too easily confused with too similarly situated films

The competitors should get a list of movies in each category with the expectations that any type of question can be asked from the listed movies.
@pj_campbell4 жыл бұрын
Mario Bro there is a list of every category that they have access to. Anything in that category if it’s an actor/directors work becomes fair game as long as it was theatrically released.
@mariobro54714 жыл бұрын
PJ Campbell I was saying more a list of every possible movie in each category because there seemed to be a misunderstanding with both Ben and Andrew about what movies they needed to in depth study for in their specific categories. This change would also make the broader categories possible to study for. I imagine that each category would still have lots of movies, so while studying would be more focused it wouldn’t be any less time consuming. I really don’t envy your job, it’s seems thankless, but you do great!
@pj_campbell4 жыл бұрын
Mario Bro It would be nearly impossible to do that and also backs us into a corner if we do that. Say we forget to list something and it comes up, is that challengeable? It would become that. So basically anything that a director or actor has worked on, as long as theatrically released is fair game, and that’s just sort of how it’ll be. We’ve been working on a guideline for the competitors that should clear up any and all confusion moving forward, so it shouldn’t be an issue again. And thank you for the kind words, I don’t find it thankless since I’m surrounded by incredible talent, but I’m happy to have the support of fans like yourself. :)

Im with you PJ! The argument about the question being set up to trick you and Thinking is wrong? Thats the point of trivia! The writers arent there to help you win, they’re there to give you a challenge. Its about overall knowledge. No excuses. To me, picking apart questions just because you get them wrong is just poor sportsmanship and takes away from the winners who were just simply the better players that day. All love and respect. The IG category is such an interesting discussion. I agree with Ghai's point that it's unfair to put those as where slices. But they are movies and are valid singles questions. Maybe stick to more general categories like "Comic Book Movies." Harry Potter could fit in so many categorizes like that.

Man this season feels weird. Its bigger, but at the same time for some reason I feel like it's a little less then because they're spinning so many plates. The Roxstars have had one match, there has only been one Innergeekdom match, nothing on contendership for Smets and over half of the drafted players have been nowhere close to having a match, while we can't escape the friggin Finstock Exchange being everywhere. But for those that are lik, the season is still just getting started, they literally say in this the season is a quarter of the way through. Still a huge fan, but I'm feeling a little off about this season of the Schmoedown

Andrew's argument about "Unbroken" is so petty. No one is disagreeing that it's a Coen brothers movie. No one is disagreeing the movie release dates is fair play in Schmoedown. No one is disagreeing that it's the right answer. No one is disagreeing that it's the only right answer. The only possible argument is that it's too hard which is just BS since there have been much harder questions asked in round 2. And it's not like trick questions have never been asked. Odd Couple has gotten multiple. They got the "How many Oscars" question when the answer was 0 and the speed round question that asked "Dezel Washington never did a sequel until which 2018 release?" Everything Andrew said seems like an excuse to cover up for the fact he didn't study release dates which, again, is fair play in Schmoedown.

I'm really beginning to dislike the whole "semantics challenge game" in the Schmoedown. It's almost becoming a game within the game to find ways of how to disqualify questions. It's not something I think adds to the game in a good way. It tends to gets a little petty and a little ugly.
@sivad10254 жыл бұрын
I really really love the challenges but really hate stupid challenges. Bibbs' challenge on the Kid's Conjuring question was a brilliant strategic move and a great use of the challenge since the question had a clear and verifiable mistake. I hate these challenges where the competitors get mad that a question was tricky or misleading and thus should be disqualified. Those are so so stupid and petty.

I don’t think the competitors should be able to question the question writers directly, especially on air. Just don’t think it’s a good look and can be perceived as a bit whiny and maybe having some unjust influence . Do all competitors have access to the writers? If it’s a “real” sport there has to be some sort of boundaries between the two. Thoughts...
@Hamstrakt4 жыл бұрын
I think both sides are coming at the conversation in good faith so I don't see an issue. If it becomes an issue in the future, a rule separating players and writers might not be a bad idea. As it is now, this early in the league, I think it's not only appropriate but necessary.

PJ Campbell Thanks for the response, you did have to. I was just trying to convey my frustration with the competitors. Not even a 1/4 of the way in and that’s all that’s coming out from these huge matches. I think you and the rest of the writers have a thankless job and that the competitors need to shut up n play. There’s human error in every sport. Your a better man than me....
@pj_campbell4 жыл бұрын
J Dalton Hey, I get it. Truly. And yeah, it’s a sport and human error happens. But I also like to hear them out if a question isn’t just straight up wrong for some reason. I like knowing where they’re coming, and I’ve been around all of them long enough that we’re a family. I wouldn’t ever shut them out, and I know they’ll listen to me as well, even if we don’t always agree. It’s important to me to continue keeping that policy of talking to them open.
