📢 Schnoodles are one of the unique dog breeds in the world. Introduced all the way back in the 1980s, this dog is a cross between the Schnauzer and the Poodle, and this crossbreed has since become one of the most popular crossbreeds in the world. Today we are going to explain just what makes the Schnoodle so unique, as well as inform you a little more about things like their history, color, sizes, temperament and more. Make sure to stick around until the end of the video, too, so that you can figure out for yourself whether a Schnoodle is the next dog for you!
👉 A Quick Overview
🐶 Schnauzers and Poodles.
Before we can properly tell you about the Schnoodle, you first need to know some things about the Schnauzer and the Poodle. First, let’s get the mainstay out of the way first. The Poodle, which is one half of every Doodle combo, comes in three main sizes, and is known for its hypoallergenic and non-shedding coat as well as the breed’s stunning IQ. They are currently listed by the American Kennel Club as the 7th most popular breed of dog, and they can live anywhere from 12 to 15 years on average.
🐶 Schnoodle 101
A big reason why dog owners are always considering adding the Schnoodle to their households is because of their coats. Schnoodles are hypoallergenic, and their coats are non-shedding. If you are someone who struggles with allergies, then this is definitely a dog to consider, as Schnoodles shouldn’t trigger any side effects at all. People that don’t like vacuuming or sweeping up dog fur all the time should also consider the Schnoodle, since that’s yet another advantage to the coat they inherit from the poodle.
🐶 How often and what kind of exercise does a Schnoodle require?
Schnoodles are very active dogs, and are going to require a little bit of effort on that end in order to keep issues from forming. Expect to devote at least an hour a day to playtime, as this is one of the best ways to get a Schnoodle’s energy levels down. When Schnoodles aren’t getting their energy out, they can become a little destructive, doing things like chewing on the couch or messing with things they shouldn’t.
🐶 What does a Schnoodle act like?
Schnoodles are incredibly intelligent dogs, owing to that from both of their smart parents. This is one of the most family-friendly dogs you could get your hands on, and they are a good choice for even the most at-risk demographics, such as babies and even the elderly.
🐶 Schnoodle Sizes
Schnoodles are available in four distinct sizes; teacup, toy, mini, and standard. A teacup is about 5 to 8 pounds, a toy is 9 to 11, a mini is 12 to 15 pounds and finally a standard is 16 to 20 pounds respectively. A Schnoodle will usually reach full size at around 15 months, and have already grown to about 60% of their body weight by just their fourth month.
🐶 A Schnoodle’s Coat
Since the Schnauzer really only comes in a handful of colors, there isn’t an abundance of options for people looking to stand out. Most Schnoodles end up having a mixed color coat, with colors like black, red, brown, and white making up most of the coat. A Schnoodle’s coat can be different in texture too, with options ranging from fluffy to wavy and even curly.
🐶 The Best Things a Schnoodle has to Offer
Despite being considered a small, indoor dog, they are still fiercely loyal, and will try and protect you and your home from any source of danger. This isn’t common at all amongst smaller dogs, and it makes the Schnoodle a great line of defense from any trouble. On top of that, Schnoodles are incredibly smart, and can learn new behavior and tricks in a hurry. These dogs really just want to keep you happy, and that means that they are much more likely to listen to you than other dogs.

Thank you for such an informative video! I adopted a young dog at the shelter and could not identify the breed. I was told he was a Yorkie poo. I absolutely disagreed but after coming across your video, I am convinced he’s a Schnoodle! 👍🏼

Schnoodles are definitely active! I acquired one (dumped on my wooded property) earlier this year, and she’s almost a year old now and a total good girl/nutcase. I live in the country, hence the dumping, so she’s free to run with her big brothers now (Pyrenees breed). She thinks she’s as big as them! She jumps up and tackle bites (lovingly) my 150lb Bear dog (that’s his name), and he used to destroy any little dog that did that, but he loves her for whatever reason. It’s funny seeing them wrestling and he’s obviously holding back. If you think your Lab or Golden is smart (they are too!), these dogs are on another level. They aren’t tricked with treats to do what they want, at least they know your motive beforehand. Smart little ….and she understood things like “go upstairs” and such as a little pup. Amazing dogs if you have energy to keep up with their play demands (very active).

Add the importance of a low fat/protein/phosphorous diet. They are prone to bladder stones and Pancreatitis. Both poodles and schnauzers are each prone.

I trained my Schnoodle to bite at any bigger dog at the dog park. Works great when you have some ass come in with a big dog and they say, "Oh. he's bigger but he's so more gentle than the dogs in the bigger section" Yeah, right! My 18 pound Schnoodle loves playing with other dogs, but if you piss her off, she'll defend herself like a rabid rat. That's the SCHNOUZER in her! Whenever my neighbor across the street backs his pick-up into the driveway, she runs to the window and barks. Is it a hearing thing, or what? I swear that she has a sixth sense for some things.

Mine is a biter that I can't seem to stop her doing it. If she doesn't get her way she gets vicious. They are not my kind of dog. I'm strictly a poodle person.

Not all doodles will require 1 hour of exercise. Mental stimulation goes a long way too.

I’m 70 and because of health reasons not too mobile. My 12 week old Schnoodle is happy on my lap being talked to, brushed and petted. She easily picks up training as I give it to her.
