When you put your midship line around a pipe in a lock, put a piece of water hose over it, that helps is travel up the pipe easier. Look up Capt. STerling's looper loop on You tube

Lovin’ it! Brings back a lot of great memories of our 2008 transit. Noticing Pivot’s “Canal Moustache”. No amount of cleanser would take it off, but wet sanding did the trick. Keep on keepin on!

Thanks Randy! It does come of really easily with Lemon Juice, the problem is that it comes right back. We just bought some Wax though, so next time we clean it we will wax it and hopefully that makes it last!

Just found your channel. My wife and I are looking forward to starting with your beginning on a trawler. I’ve been a sailor for 50 years. We lost everything in H Ian. Our Beneteau 46.4. Time to move away from offshore sailing. We have a Pilgrim 40 under contract. It took a hurricane to move me from rags to stinkpot. We hope To learn from your experiences

I'm loving watching your videos and it is helping us plan for our Great Loop journey in a few years. Quick question, and you may have answered it before....Why can't you run your AC off your generator? I thought that was one of the advantages of having a generator on board.
@SchoandJo Жыл бұрын
We actually can, we learned how a bit later. Effectively what would happen is that our inverter would switch on when the AC was starting, and this would blow a fuse. We learned that we need to turn the inverter "inverting mode" off while the generator is on and it won't switch back and voila it worked! We figured that out on the Rivers when we needed the heat lol

Another great cruise. You edit out the overstress parts don't you? I guess you showed them on the NJ coast vids. You make it look so doable.

We don't really edit out the over stress parts - we keep it about as real as we can while keeping it short enough for KZbin 😁

You should have a 50 to 30 amp converter adapter on board. They are not that expensive. With my 30A motorhome if 50 30 and 20 receptacles in a panel I will normally use the 50A with an adapter.
@SchoandJo2 жыл бұрын
Makes sense! We've never really needed one, except once on the Loop so far so it would be a nice to have 😁

What is the maximum height through the canal?
@SchoandJo2 жыл бұрын
For the entire Erie its 15.5 feet, for the section we went on, I'm not sure, maybe something like 25 feet?
@AlaskaRog2 жыл бұрын
You might want to carry an adapter that lets you use your 30 amp cord in a 50 amp plug. Simple and easy.
@SchoandJo2 жыл бұрын
Maybe... we'd need two adapters for 120 and 240 50A so we will see!
@AlaskaRog2 жыл бұрын
@@SchoandJo it’s a single adapter with a male plug that goes into a 50 amp receptacle and a female plug that your 30 amp shore power plug goes into. They are readily available in the marine and rv world.

Years ago when trans versing the canal system in Ny we were told that each lockmaster calls ahead to the next lock as to the time you exit the current lock and that the next lockmaster can and does calculate based on the time you left and then arrive at the next lock they determine how fast you travel between the locks. They calculate your speed and if they determine you exceeded the speed limit set they had they authority to not allow you passage, fine the captain for speeding, detain you and the boat and I was told that they could even impound the boat. I never actauuly was able to find out if this was factual or just some untrue story that had spread around. Who knows ?? Just passing on what I was told.
@SchoandJo2 жыл бұрын
Hmm never heard of that, there were some fast boats and we didn't see anyone getting impounded. What I do know is that the people living on the canal will call the lock tenders if you are not responsible and throw a massive wake.
