The escalation from psychically powerful child to Akira levels of chaos and to go as far as for the Grey Knights themselves truly shows how even a small lack of vigilance compounded with ruthlessness (of the plantation officer in this case) can spell the end of many lives. They feed the forces of chaos with the war and ruthless actions they take to combat it. The warp is composed of the souls and emotions of those on the material plane. That is why it was so corruption after the war in heaven flooded it with souls of the slaughtered and massive amounts of negative emotions. The empire's contribution may be small in comparison, but is contributory nonetheless.

@@jesusaguirre2150 There is actually an allegation (albeit a specious one) that the emperor is secretly aligned or promoting chaos or a wannabe chaos god somehow, at least given that the imperium is unwittingly doing far more to fuel the immaterium than all the other races combined at this point. Like. He literally spent all this time focusing on chaos as the number one enemy, it's just what the emprah did is often so stupid, so asinine, so utterly self defeating, it is often difficult to perceive whether he did it out of incompetence or actual malice to use the sacrifices of mankind to fuel the warp. I mean he is afterall taking a thousand human sacrifices every single day to maintain presence in the warp. There is literally no chaos ritual that mankind has used in ritual human sacrifice on that scale. The Golden Throne alone has taken over 3.6 billion human ritual sacrifices of psykers in the past ten thousand years. Just the Astronomicon alone. Of course there is a certain irony to the fact he was trying to stamp out ALL superstition and religion, and ended up being turned in to a false god religious idol that, due to the nature of the warp, by him simply being worshiped by trillions of people leaving subtle psychic imprints, he is being slowly turned into a chaos god anyway.

The one saving grace of nurgle is that his followers seem to be genuinely happy. Yes they are horrific and disgusting to outsiders but they themselves seem devoid of suffering, quite the contrary in fact. Khorne followers are just violently enraged constantly Tzeentch followers are just pawns in his schemes, and don't even necessarily serve him by choice Slaanesh followers are cursed with insatiable desire for pleasures that can never be satisfied. Only Nurgle's followers seem to be truly happy.

That's the only thing that made me take it more seriously. I think it was just constructed poorly. Like if it was the Black Pox first, the guy burst forth with flies, and after weeks of plague and flies and rotflies, people turning into zombies, eventually nurglings are able to come through until weakening the layers between reality over the course of weeks or months. Which is not exactly an unreasonable amount of time in any regard, both as the time it takes to really rip a hole without actually doing it deliberately, making it strong enough that greater daemons get through, and that the Imperium would be, as usual, crippled by its own ineptitude not even getting reinforcements or hearing about it or anyone calling for backup for months on end until the situation is so serious that it becomes questionable what if anything even can be done at that point (which is probably what actually dooms most worlds, it can largely be assumed that unless you have Titan manufactorums or are some super critical strategic fortress like Cadia or ultra important hiveworld you're pretty much on your own).

During the second wave it is under advisement from the player character that a distress call is sent out. I'm trying to find more on the Dark Mechanicum, the New Mechanicum, and it's surprisingly paltry. Although I really don't think there's a hell of lot of lore about that. Really I don't actually give a shit about most imperial lore at this point. It's not interesting to me. It's like the squats and ratlings, nobody gives a fuck about Sigmar. It's the other factions that are most interesting, the Mechanicus is tbh one of the most interesting parts about the Imperium, but even still the chaos tainted one is more interesting and mainly all that I can find is stuff about the Schism and the Siege of Terra. I guess partly it's because I feel like some people don't get that it's supposed to be grimdark and try and make Imperial forces out to be shining white knights, when realistically they are soviet commisars for a space USSR enforcing the policies of NKVD, if the NKVD was also fighting Satan and not just Nazis trying to exterminate all Russians (along with tons of innocent people or minor political dissidents). The fact some people actually like glorifying the space USSR and space Stalinism just kills me. Like, they're all shit. But at least the Dark Eldar and Commoragh and the Tyranids is *interesting* shit. It seems like the Dark Mechanicum would be a wellsrping of fascinating horrifying stories.

I for one, don't want to be an undead minion trapped in my own armour, a diseased and bloated husk or a bloodthirsty angry beast. I would like the mind control powers the Deity of Excess gives some of their followers, and the claws, and genitalia that I can do vore with. Remember - vore is fun, especially on the pompous, arrogant and supercilious followers of the false corpse Emperor. Maybe have a claw shaped like a can opener to get the armour off the space marines, before sucking them in and eventually birthing (through whatever orifice is convenient) with their now corrupted material more legions of demons for Slaanesh. And I would eat them the normal way as well, Space Marine would be a rare and exquisite meat, I feel.

Whilst yes, they'd frown on it, but technically they were pulling back to initiate an exterminatus, so I'd see it more as a tactical withdrawal. It would certainly be a retreat if they went back their ships and ran off home, but at least in this case they followed through with ending the incursion.

So, something I have to wonder here. Wouldn't the forces of Chaos be aware of the fact that an Inquisitor will scour the planet through exterminatus if they feel as though the planet is lost? They get to sack an Agriworld, sure, but they also seem surprised and disappointed that the inevitable end game played out. It's like they work themselves out of a job when they push too hard or they get smacked back by Imperial forces if they don't try hard enough. Or is it just that the forces of Chaos have a unlimited number of demons that they take any opportunity they can get to do whatever damage they can until next Saturday when they'll try to get Inspector Gadget again?

See, this is part of why I always get whiny about Chaos; they rarely seem to possess any limits. A single nascent psyker, on a single world, anywhere in the Imperium, can suddenly open a gateway for whole legions of Daemons to spill forth, and all of these neverborn monsters feel like they are free to the Gods. Even when totally stomped, it's not like the Ruinous Powers might "run out"; they never struggle to amass another army, and it's always of countless numbers that can easily wash over a world. Meanwhile, their own structure is effectively immune to reprisal. There arw few weapons that can permanently kill even lesser Daemons, and realspace foes can hardly mount crusades into the Empyrean, and deliver similar suffering upon them. It's not like I want someone to sneak in and assassinate Nurgle, or for the Eldar Death God to finally slay Slaanesh, but it just always feels so one-sided. Chaos can't "lose worlds", or important personalities. Daemons only fade for a time, and even the Chaos Legions, who don't seem to take to the field with Apothecaries, and Techmarines, to recover their lost kit, when they fall, never seem to teeter on the brink of low numbers, despite their gene-seeds often being so corrupted. It's kind of like they are the players of a video game, and the characters within it know that they are, but also know that there is no way for THEM to reach beyond the boundaries of their world, and strike against the vile users, and their cheat codes, and bad sportsmanship. And it's not like I feel Orks, or Nids, are better; they are also ever-present, ever-numerous, faceless foes who fight just to, and will never be less threatening, but I guess Chaos just annoys me more? This also reminds me of the Fall of Shadowbrink; one of my favorite 40k battles. I think I like it so much because, for the most part, it's not an Imperium v enemies scenario. They are there, but they fall so fast, and then it's just Nids vs Chaos, and even the Daemons can find it hard to engage a Hive Fleet, and succeed. Wonderful video, and thanks for making it!

I think that’s part of the Grimdark setting, the fact that Chaos is this overwhelming, unbeatable opponent but can never pull itself together to fully finish the job. Notably, the powers of chaos rarely cooperate and in fact mostly fight amongst themselves, and sabotage any attempt for one to become more dominant over the others. This incursion in particular was only possible because for once the powers of chaos actually decided to work together, after the initial incursion was successfully repelled. And even then all they could do was corrupt one planet before the imperium exterminatus’d it to oblivion, stopping the invasion.

I've been wandering about something, if the Warp was what it's like in the 40k universe, what could happen if Chaos Cults started popping up on Modern Earth?

I mean, that's a pretty straightforward and objective situation. Earth would fall INCREDIBLY quickly. We don't have Space Marines, we don't have Psykers, and even our basic weaponry and vehicles are inferior to what the Guardsmen have access to. Those Chaos Cults are going to eventually have at LEAST one guy channeling some kind of warp power, and without Psykers that's kind of impossible for us to fight against. Maybe if we knew exactly where the cults were we could just nuke the area before they spread too far and started summoning demons and corruption, but if they ever reached the point where demons and corruption got involved the world is basically doomed. We don't have the ability to fight against that sort of thing, so doing a primitive Exterminatus is the only solution (aka, nuking every square inch of the planet). Except unlike in 40K we don't have multiple colonized worlds to retreat to after scouring this one, so it's the objective end of humanity. Just remember that the one and ONLY thing that enabled the Imperium to ever become a thing in the first place was us being lucky that the Emperor was around a bajillion years ago and knew we'd eventually have to fight against Chaos and thus develop ourselves accordingly. However, even for the Emperor, it took him a long time in the future (relative to our current year) to get things up and running. There'd be hell on Earth pretty quickly. I mean based on how demons are described in the lore, we wouldn't be too effective against them. Even with the combined military forces of every country, it's kinda hard to face off against an enemy which can teleport about, shift its form, and conjure forth great storms. Plus the cults would probably have a fairly easy time recruiting people, so unless we were already privy to the idea of this occurring, then I reckon they'd end up running rampant.

I'd say that most of the characters in 40k are far from being the sharpest of tools in the shed. They seem so shocked every time an exterminatus is declared, even though it's an inevitability for those worlds once chaos starts to gain an upper hand.

Not sure where you're getting that number from? The word legion doesn't relate to a specific number of anything. Even roman legions were variable with their troops numbers, but for the biblical term of "demonic legion", that was just an unspecified large number, so no I don't think that it was an inappropriate use of the word.
