Why is it so damn hard for people to follow the law?? If you see a bus with red flashing lights STOP. If you're in doubt if you have to stop or not stop anyways and if the people behind you don't like it that's just too damn bad . It's better than getting a hefty fine and points on your license. Unless their is a physical barrier or a 5 foot median all traffic must stop. On our back roads where we live they stop the bus in the middle of the road so no one can pass the school bus

Regular Stop sign: You stop for 3 seconds and then proceed the intersection when it is clear/your turn. School Bus Stop sign: You stop and let the bus do its thing, as if it is literally a red light for you. ^ This is the confusing part since it is both a "Stop" sign but driver needs to act differently; where I had once treated the School bus Stop sign as regular stop sign and proceed after 3 sec of stopping next to the stop sign it extended out.

The law read different in my state. not only that the school are not allowed to let student cross road of a above stated number of lanes. The thing is you could get a ticket if you do stop like that on a for lane road if going in the opposite direction of the bus. All you have to do in court to prove if you are a out of state diver. That the laws in your home state are different from the state you got the ticket in. The you make an argument for policing for profit. Ohio found that having the opposite side stop posed more of a danger than having all for lanes stop. in Ohio ORC 4511.75 Stopping for stopped school bus. C) Where a highway has been divided into four or more traffic lanes, a driver of a vehicle, streetcar, or trackless trolley need not stop for a school bus approaching from the opposite direction which has stopped for the purpose of receiving or discharging any school child, persons attending programs offered by community boards of mental health and county boards of developmental disabilities, or children attending programs offered by head start agencies. The driver of any vehicle, streetcar, or trackless trolley overtaking the school bus shall comply with division (A) of this section. (D) School buses operating on divided highways or on highways with four or more traffic lanes shall receive and discharge all school children, persons attending programs offered by community boards of mental health and county boards of developmental disabilities, and children attending programs offered by head H start agencies on their residence side of the highway.

Missouri is the same way, I moved to Florida and got irritated by the people that stopped. I then was told how stupid the law is here and that I was in the wrong when I kept going, on a 6 lane road WITH a turn lane...

Yeah I had this happen today. 4 lane with a center divided by 20 feet of unmarked turn lanes. Bus stopped on opposite side just put out stop sign and I continued travelling the opposite direction knowing I don't have to stop,and everyone behind me stops. Come to the next light and a lady starts giving me the stink eye! Lol! I new I was correct on this thank you for the Ohio Revised code! I also believe if you stop the flow of traffic for no reason you can get a ticket and there is a deal about needing a parade permits to do so?

Uh what’s the point on stop arm cameras? Cars that defy stopped school buses all have these tinted license plate covers to turn the tables on the school bus stop arm cameras. So when the camera takes a picture of the car’s license plate it comes back as nothing therefore you can’t fine them without license plate numbers.

i came here because a bus beeped at me. is this a new law? as far as i know you stopped only from the opppsite direction when there is only one lane on each direction. but when there are 2 lanes on each direction. the opposite directipn wont have to. i think i even remember that you can from the same direction when there are multiple lanes. i read this from my last online traffic school. i live in California.

You're correct, two lanes of same direction flow of traffic, meaning a four lane total roadway. Buses and schools are NOT to let children cross such a roadway from one side to the other, across barriers, medians or turn lanes. The bus needs to be on the same side as the entering and exiting children. Not everyone know or adheres to that law, but that's how it's written.

$258 is too low, it needs to be $2500 (reckless driving) license taken away for 6 months, impound vehicle for 6 months, and possible prison time if you run over a child and kills him/her getting off a school bus.
