Summary of what happened to understand better: Kotonoha was thinking about Makoto the whole time, and decided to be dismissive in class. She went over to Makoto's house immediately, and talked to Makoto's mother. Kotonoha came to see what was going on, only to find out that Sekai and Makoto were together and having intercourse. Kotonoha left feeling insane, so she went to find Makoto and Sekai when they were together. Kotonoha killed Sekai on front of Makoto's very eyes, and Kotonoha wanted him to praise her because Sekai is gone completely now. Hope this helps you understand better.

I sometimes don't get the amount of hate that Sekai gets... Yeah, she was apparently a crazy psycho in the manga (I never read that one, only know the game and anime) and she also tried killing Kotonoha/Makoto in some endings where she snaps, but it's not like Kotonoha didn't have enough endings on her own where she goes crazy and even kills her rival or even unrelated people (like Yuki's sister in Cross Days). Sure, Sekai was pretty stupid and selfish in her actions, but (at least in the original game) she never acted out of any real malice. In fact, she was actually willing to let Makoto be with his real love Kotonoha and tried to distance herself from him at first, once he started showing attraction towards Sekai. She only admitted her own feelings for Makoto after he pursued her for a while. And in the paths where Kotonoha gets bullied, Sekai actually is pretty horrified and sorry when she finds out about it, even though it wasn't her own fault that her friends decided to attack Kotonoha. In my first playtrough of the game (where I only pursued Kotonoha) Sekai only once suggested the "practice" and immediately backed down when I refused. The game ended with me and Kotonoha happily together with a heartbroken Sekai (who had given up on Makoto) being consoled by Nanami. Only when Makoto is really indecisive or straight out admits that he loves Sekai does she start fighting for him. It is right that the Idiot Plot of the series probably wouldn't have happened, had Sekai not kissed Makoto at the train station and at one point suggested the special practice, but I always perceived these moments as Sekai showing weakness, rather than her actively sabotaging his relationship with Kotonoha. Sekai knew that Makoto was in love with Kotonoha and that she had to give up on him, so why not steal a last kiss from him, so she can give him up in peace? I always figured that that was Sekai's motive for the kiss. In the end she did some pretty stupid things out of impulse, but it's not like Makoto and Kotonoha weren't faultless themselves. What with Makoto being (depending on the adaption) too much of a womanizing jerkass or an indecisive nice guy to really break up with either woman. And Kotonoha isn't exactly stable herself with her poor mental state. Especially when Makoto breaks up with her and she still keeps insisting that they're together; resulting in her constantly pushing herself onto Makoto, insisting that Sekai seduced Makoto into choosing her (even if in that particular gamepath, it was Makoto who choose Sekai on his own), trying to seduce him (even if he doesn't want it) and even in one game path manipulating Sekai into breaking up with Makoto (by showing her a certain photo, without explaining the context), so she can have him all for herself. In the end, I think that all three main characters are pretty idiotic sometimes. And have no mistake; i like them all. But they all reacted in some very poor ways, which resulted in the plot going downhill in certain paths. But in the end, as far as the original Visual Novel is concerned, they're all fairly nice characters, battling with their own problems of insecurity, indecisiveness and more, which results in the drama we get in the game. Seriously, it's such a shame that the following sequels, as well as the anime and manga took so many of their good traits away and instead focuses more on their flaws. I'd rather see the nice, caring, indecisive Makoto, than the womanizing jerkass that we got in the anime... TD:DR: All three main characters have their own problems and faults, which drives the plot and it's wrong to shift the blame on just one person.

But so does Makoto as well, considering that he always switched back and forth between her and Kotonoha. And like I said in my first comment, in some paths Kotonoha does some stupid stuff as well. I just don't get how so many people bash only Sekai, when there are so many worse jerks in the game/series and how they all say that Sekai deserved to be murdered for it. Yeah, her actions were stupid and impulsive, but getting murdered for it?

blackanimelover21 Well, I know that Makoto (at least in the anime) is very hated as well, but personally I've seen far more nasty comments against Sekai. Maybe it's because she's the one who started the whole mess, I don't know... And yeah, all of the deaths in the series (anime and game) are pretty much cruel and uncalled for and while I did wish for anime-Makoto to get his comeuppance, getting stabbed to death was way overboard. Though personally I can't blame Sekai completely for it, as she was under a lot of mental stress and despair at that moment and seemed to regret the murder immediately after that. Just like all the bad endings in the game, when either Sekai or Kotonoha crack under the stress and resort to murder. Not that it excuses it though. I think we can agree that the murders (while they may be the most famous part of the series) are all uncalled for, that all three characters have their own faults and that none of them deserve to have their throat slashed or be pushed in front of a train, just because they did some bad stuff...

All i can say every ending of this show, game or movie whatever has a bad ending like suicide, killed sekai, killed kotonoha, killed mokoto, mokoto hit by a train, kotonoha hit by a train, sekai hit by a train, sekai died by kotonoha from showing showing his head to sekai and stab her to check if shes pregnant or not, kotonoha died by sekai by pushing her and finnally mokoto died by sekai from not being her boyfriend. all i can say is everytime you choose one you still died by kotonoha and sekai
